Unless the items are clearly marked Sterling they are silver plated. Rogers made lots of silver plate over the years, and the date is the patent date for the pattern, not the year they were made.

This will depend on the shape that your set it in. You can find several antique stores online that can give you estimates or take it in to a local dealer.

Rogers Bros. became part of the Meriden Britannia company. The Meriden Britannia company absorbed dozens of other silverware makers in the area and expanded its operation overseas, after which it became known as the International Silver Company(IS). International Silver may have used the 1847 Rogers mark as early as 1852. The successor to the International Silver Company is still in business and uses the 1847 trademark to this day.

IS stands for the International Silver Co. and unless it says sterling or 925/1000 it is silver plate.

99.99% of the time it is Plated, once again it is not silver. the only flatware that is made of silver will say on it somewhere STERLING

Most likely, as is the case with other silver and silver plate manufacturers, the pattern did not change, but over time the marks were changed by new owners to a company, new management, or simply by the mere fact that trends change with time. EPNS is Electro-Plated Nickle Silver. The base metal contains no silver but, because its nickel content imparts a colour more like silver than brass, it's always been known as 'nickel-silver'. 'Electro-plated' means that the flatware is electro-plated with silver. So while all are silver plate in the Delphic pattern, some of the pieces were purchased at different times than others.

If you need to use flash, try standing as far away from the object as possible and use the camera to zoom in. It will help diffuse the light. Most digital cameras are actually pretty good for indoor lighting with out using a flash. The other problem encounter is that you will show up in the reflective surface of the silver. Try photographing at an angle.

There are some brands of flatware that tout themselves as being chemical free. In general, silver and silver plated flatware are considered to be quite safe. Nickle silver, stainless steel and plastic are also frequently used to make flatware. Though each does have very low levels of chemicals, none are considered to pose a significant health hazard to users.

It's generally not recommended to run Wm Rogers reinforced plate silverware through the dishwasher, as the harsh detergents and high temperatures can cause tarnishing and damage over time. Hand washing with mild soap and drying immediately is a better option to preserve the silverware's appearance and longevity. If you do choose to use a dishwasher, place the silverware in a secure basket and use a gentle cycle.
