How does poikilothermy limit an organism?
During the sleep cycle described as REM (rapid eye movement) we undergo poikilothermy, that is, we lose control of our body temperature. A condition associated with reptiles.
Well you may feel depressed. If you ever dream then you do indeed enter REM sleep.
It could be that you have sleep apnea, which is a sleeping disorder in which your airway (consist of the mouth, the nose, throat & windpipe) is obstructed. The obstruction can happened in different places e.g. your throat or nostril. What happens is your breathing will stop temporarily and then start again. The lack of oxygen will signal your body to wake up so that you continue to breathe. This makes it difficult for you to go into deep sleep or REM sleep especially if your case is severe.
If you are often sleepy at work/during the day, feel tired & people complained that you snore (most of the time, but not necessarily always), seek out advice from a doctor.
There's a painless sleep test - where you may need to overnight at the clinic to determine how severe your case is. Do not take this lightly as having severe sleep apnea can cause many problems.

Late night cure for restless leg syndrome?
I have had restless leg syndrome foe quite a few years. I am 69 years old. Many varrious medicines were prescribe by my pschiatrist but none helped. Now, I am on a mild pain killer called "Tramadol" for about a year or more. This is a very addictive drug and I can't off it, I take one 50mg tab in the morning, one in the afternoon, and two just before bed time. It seems to have solved my problem with restless legs. I still have a little sleeping problems getting to sleep after I lay down, but nothing like I had before the Tramadol. Discuss this with your doctor as soon as possible.
Can you die without REM sleep?
I think your brain activity would be so sluggish that you would be more likely to have some secondary cause of death like a motor vehicle accident or falling down a flight of stairs or something. Your brain wants, needs REM sleep so badly you probably wouldn't be able to really go without so much sleep that your brain actually ceased to function. It may not be functioning properly, but any tiny amount of REM sleep is rejuvinating for your brain. I'd think that holding still for ten seconds in a state like that would put you to sleep.
Why do university students stay up late?
Because they are busy between classes, working for a living, studying.
How many hours of sleep should a 16-18 years old get a night?
The average adult needs about 7 hours of sleep.
Teenagers under 15 may need about 10 hours of sleep as they are in a state of metabolic growth. 15 + need roughly 8 hours but can function to full capticity on around 7.
Also, oversleeping can have negative side effects, including a slowed metabolism which can lead to weight gain and inability to "start up" to get things done.
What could be the problem if you can't breathe at night and neither can you sleep?
Okay -- lots of possible reasons -- let's try a few: * Alergies. Sometimes these manifest more at night, possibly due to temperature and humidity changes. Usually this would mean a runny nose and post-nasal drip, also problems and perhaps a wheeze when you inhale. Consider a night time allergy medication and see if it helps. Read the label and look for diphenhydramine. It'll make you a little sleepy too, which might help. Also, animals -- if you have a pet sleeping in the bed with you, this might be part of it. Consider moving the pet away from the head of the bed. * Environmental -- consider sleeping somewhere else one night. If your sleep is a lot better, consider changing out the pillows and bedclothes -- and even possibly the mattress. Get rid of any flowers in the room and also any de-odorizors. Vaccuum the heck out of the place. If there are damp spots, that could attract mold. Mold will appear as green, grey, brown, black or fluffy usually. Wash that down with a mixture of bleach and water. * Asthma. If the problem occurs with temperature changes or when you're stressed out, and especially if you have trouble exhaling as well as inhaling, you might have asthma. Usually, you can easily control this but you'll need a doctor to write the prescriptions for it. * Sleep Apnea. Do you snore really loudly? Have someone come in when you're asleep and see if you breathe easily, if you snore -- and especially if yoiu stop breathing for 10 seconds or more. If this is your case, talk to your doc about sleep apnea. * Sleep positions. Is the problem more common if you're sleeping face down or on your side? If so, try sleeping on your back and see if that helps. If none of these solve this, come back and post in discussions: * Wheezing or not? * Can't get a full breath or not? * Hard to inhale? Hard to exhale? Both? * Spitting up any phlegm? What color? * Sneezing too? * How long do you usually sleep?

Is it true that you sleep one-third of your life?
You are "supposed" to sleep 8-hours a day, which is a third of a day. Extending that, you sleep a third of each month, a third of each year, a third of your life. This is all, of course, based on the 8-hours per day sleeping schedule.
How is restless legs syndrome diagnosed?

== == When parents give you medicine to numb you from reality it is because they do not know how to deal with teenagers and have forgotten how hard it is. It doesn't mean they don't care about you it just means that they are scared and don't know what to say to you. But I'll tell you from experience, when you are at that age and starting prescription drugs it can only lead to addictions. The best thing to do is work out your problem while being drug free, and although seroquel is not a narcotic, it is still a routine drug which will assist in you building a habit of taking pills to make you feel better. The only way for you to get better is to help yourself and do things that make you happy. Teenage years are hard for everyone but it does end and everyone will become a different person. If you don't do things to make your happy without drugs now then you will be dependent on them the rest of your life. I take Seroquel, and it's no biggie, it helps me go to sleep and also helps with my autism. Seroquel can be used to treat many disorders, IE. bipolar, autism, ADD, not just schizophrenia, for some it even helps combat abusive behavior like alcoholism, drug addiction. It helps much with anxiety, that's why I take it. Regarding the cognitive effects of seroquel, I always take 2000 mg of Taurine which helps me concentrate, a multivitamin, and make sure to eat when you feel hunger, as Seroquel often makes you loose your ability to determine when you're hungry, so you have to remind yourself to eat. Some people notice some type of cognitive impairment, like slow thinking, that's because of the sedative effects of Seroquel, but notice that if you time your REM sleep and wake yourself at 8 hours, you can control this and not over sleep the 12-18 hours that some people will feel. I use a super loud alarm clock, and take 1 cup of gunpowder green tea to wake up, followed by a cold shower. Once you ingest the caffeine coupled with the metabolic enhancement of the green tea, then you will feel awake. Another thing that helps is to take an Emergen-C Vitamin C supplement with 1000 mg of Vitamin C, that will get you energized. Just don't overdo the caffeine cause it will elute all your vitamins and will lower your blood pressure and remember Seroquel already will lower your blood pressure somewhat. So, make sure to eat salt, or keep some pickles handy, as the pickle juice is the perfect osmolarity for your blood. I strongly recommend a folic acid supplement, this helps even out blood pressure, and also eat two bananas a day, that helps too. I like Seroquel, however, personally if I were not in the US, I would be taking Amisulpride. Amisulpride gives you all the benefits of Seroquel without the excessive sleeping stuff. Amisulpride is only available in Europe, Canada, and Japan, but it's a much better medication! I should mention that I take Seroquel due my inability to sleep, and or nightmares, I have Asperger's and OCD. I should mention that high dosages of Seroquel make OCD worse, which is why I stopped taking it. I would recommend Piracetam, I take that now, as well as a multivitamin. Note that I do have an Asperger's-OCD diagnosis. Seroquel combats the symptoms of schizophrenia, a mental disorder marked by delusions, hallucinations, disrupted thinking, and loss of contact with reality. It is the first in a new class of anti psychotic medications. Researchers believe that it works by diminishing the action of dopamine and serotonin, two of the brain's chief chemical messengers. It can also be used for bi-polar. Your parents would not be able to obtain this with out a script from your doctor. You must show some signs of schizophrenia or bi-polar. It is best to start treating it and keep it treated because if not then you may become worse, and you could end up doing things that you will undoubtedly regret. The other poster is correct, but I would like to add that your parents love you a great deal and are extremely worried about you. They love you enough not to want to frighten you and for that you should be thankful and not feel they are being deceitful. Often people with bi-polar or schizophrenia will refuse to take their medications (may forget or become angry over the fact they are ill or even trick themselves into believing they aren't ill.) As advised by the above poster you should remain on this medication and also have a talk with your parents. Let them know you are aware of what you are taking and discuss it with them. Tell them that from now on you are mature enough to handle what is happening with you and you want to work with them on your illness and mean what you say. I would like you to know that thousands upon thousands of people suffer from all forms of depression so don't be embarrassed, angry or feel that you are going to end up in an institution and that you're crazy. If you take your medications you should be just fine. I'm in my last year of high school, and have been taking Seroquel for a year. I just stopped, and am desperately trying to recover the critical thinking skills I lost during having taken it in time for final exams. Seroquel may help with a lot of things, but it has the potential to SERIOUSLY make you dumber. It is impossible to think at the same level as you used to think, or at least it is for me. You might want to consider this, or share it with your parents. Seroquel is not only used as a anti psycotic. It is also used for people with sleep disorders and night terrors. It can be used in patients for instance with PTSD and insomnia.

Can you give a dog a sleeping pill?
Absolutely not! You should never give your dog anything that the vet hasn't agreed too. If your dog should bark during the night or cry through the night keeping you awake then you need to be trained along with your pet. Dogs generally want to be close to one member of the family so there is no harm in letting the dog sleep in a doggy bed or warm blanket beside your bed. That's better than getting no sleep if this should be the reason.
