Progressives seek to reform the capitalist system to make it more just, without questioning the fundamentals of capitalism or challenging the legitimacy of private property and the profits system.

Unions were formed to advance the interests of the common workers against those of the owners of the companies in which they worked. This was pure Marxian theory where the workers (proletariat) were in constant class struggle with the owners of the companies (bourgeoisie).

Dangerous. Privatized Social Security means the contributions would be paid to, and the funds managed by, one or more private investment firms, rather than managed by (and backed by) the federal government. The investment company would be run on a for-profit basis (which the federal government does not do), meaning investors would make money from ordinary workers' contributions, a practice with a built-in conflict of interest detrimental to the worker.

In general, having less conflict lowers costs by reducing loss of economic inputs, allocation of output to conflict, and transactions costs/uncertainty associated with conflict. Generally, countries with people practice socialism. However there are countries with people who do not practice socialism. A country without people will never practice socialism as there is no social aspect.

You mean in which part of year (time, Cold War? Or Before World War 2). By the way, there are 2 main types of socialism. One is the communist style. The other style is the welfare state where heavy taxes are the price of better working conditions. For the first type mentioned above, Former Russia and Eastern Europe (Soviet Union,compromising of 15 states), China, Cuba, North Korea and North Vietnam (which lated unified in Vietnam War with the defeat of the south, the non-socialist country) are some of the examples. The second style are mainly from the Western Europe, notably from Sweden,Finland and British. However, most of them should be getting away from these socialism as they pay heavy prices on their nations. (Heavy tax= Less workforce as no one wants to work- Get welfare from state is even enough to travel once a year. Furthermore, this avoids investors etc, this is ultimately result into chain of negative reactions.)

Worker-control socialism is an economic system where the employees of an enterprise manage their own affairs collectively, through some form of democratic-decision making process. This might mean that the worker-members elect management, or directly vote on proposals and organizational goals.

The other aspect of worker-controlled socialism is co-operative ownership of the enterprise by all its worker-members, so that each member receives a portion of the profit generated by the firm in addition to a wage/salary that corresponds to their contribution.
