Stalking

Stalking is the illegal activity of repeatedly directing unwanted attention to another person. It usually shows a mental or emotional problem in the stalker or criminal intent. Stalking can be following a person around, trying to talk to them or lingering outside their house, also threats or property damage. However, even sending messages or gifts to an unwilling recipient can be just as harassing and is also considered stalking.

What can you do to stop a person from harassing your family?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are a lot of "it depends" in this question. If you think the legal system will be able to help you, don't necessarily count on it. You can have the courts "order" this person not to threaten your family, but unless and until this person is caught in the act of trying to carry out the threat, and there are witnesses (not just the word of a family member) there is nothing the law can do. That is why things like orders of protection are worthless.

Are the creepypastas real?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

All creepypastas aren't real. There are several debunk videos and explanations that prove that they were made up. However, there are a select few that don't show proof that they AREN'T real. Or, if you have a fertile imagination, you can imagine they're real. If you scare yourself too much with these, your brain will do that anyway.

If you are easily disturbed or upset, don't read/watch/see these creepypastas. A Creepypasta is a story that a person made up to scare and unnerve the reader.

Is it illegal to follow someone and or photograph them?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It can be. If you do it once then ussually people dont do anything, but if you are constantley follwing someone, it can be saw as harrasment, and charges be saught after you. Unless it is gov. or police officers they are aloud to, and there is nothing you can do about it. It really just isn't safe either like you can be beat-up for doing it, and then the person can just claim self defense since you were following them.

What do cyber stalkers do?

User Avatar

Asked by StunningNally

Cyber bullies pretty much bully you, but not how you'd think, they actually do the bullying over the internet or mobile phone. this includes:

calling names, putting down but saying everyone hates you, threat-them wanting to kill you and your family, blaming and more. the most significant cyber bullying way is- names calling and threats. some cyber bullies don't realize they're doing it.they may only be doing it over the mobile or only over the internet.if that is the case then maybe its a good idea to let them know. cyber bullies do blame people for the wrongs and mightn't own up to what they have done.instead blame anyone else that they can to get out of it. sometimes cyber bullies may even get an older sister or brother or parent to stand uo for them, and make it look like the victims are the ones doing the bullying. if the bullying get out of controll its best to tell your mum or dad,and then maybe they can settle some of the issues with the other persons parent. if that doesnt work then you should probably go to the police. but hopefully things dont get that bad. cyber bullies can even harm the ones you love.if they gain controll and know that you are scared and running to your mum or dad, and your mum and dad dont act, they jst tell u to ignore it.then they might think they can hach into your computer and everything and do horrible things to stuff up then career or your parent.

What are the characteristics of a stalker?

well a stalker would try and communicate with you secretly like create a user name that you don't know and they might try to hide. but if you get caught up into someone you might not even see them

Stalkers can be any age or sex and have any or no connection to their target.

A stalker can be anybody from a work colleague to a neighbour, a former friend or partner, someone who serves you in a store, someone with a real or imagined grudge; anybody. Usually they get over it fairly soon; stalking takes time and energy and most stalkers are quickly noticed by their target, who can take steps to avoid them, or their target might never become aware of their attentions at all; this is common. It's only the rare and extreme cases that get publicity, so don't worry too much.

A stalker is usually insecure and fantasy-driven with a need for control. Their view of the person they are stalking might have no connection with reality at all: they can build an entire fantasy life (usually involving themselves in some way) around the object of their obsession, and have no idea this fantasy has no basis in fact.

Very many stalkers simply observe quietly and think a great deal about their target, never making contact and never making themselves known in any way to that target.

Others might attempt to make some form of contact which could well remain unnoticed by their target; others can - frequently after some period of stalking involving no contact - begin to make contact in different ways: they might telephone when they know their target to be out, just to listen to the phone message, or they might leave objects - a flower, a publication - casually where their target will find it.

Many times the stalker is known to their target in some way, sometimes well-known, other times by casual contact (in a shop or office, and so on) and of course a stalker can be a person previously involved in a friendship or relationship with their target.

If you suspect you are being stalked, don't panic. Most stalkers are harmless. Tell someone you trust about the situation and if possible enlist their help in observing what's giving you cause for suspicion. Make a report to authorities, bearing in mind they'll want any information you can give; dates and times and description, for example.

Don't get obsessed yourself; it's all to easy to begin jumping at shadows. If at any stage you become concerned for your safety or that of others, or if the suspected stalking is affecting your life and emotional wellbeing, act immediately by contacting police.

Do not confront a person you suspect is stalking you, and don't allow or encourage anyone close to you to do so. If you are sufficiently concerned that you feel you should take steps to remedy the situation, you must contact police, if only so that they have a record of what's happening: your stalker could be engaging in similar behaviour with others, so it's good for authorities to possibly record a pattern.

Is stalking bad?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No! And its against the law. Stalking is and has been a major issue in our society. With the advent of the Internet, stalking others online has become a major epidemic. Stalking has actually been portrayed in movies and TV as being "cute and romantic" but nothing could be further from the truth. What you see the character on screen doing may look sweet, but think about what and how you would actually feel if some strange guy or girl did that to you?

What are the charges for stalking?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The penalty for cyber stalking can vary greatly. I will use California as an example. As a lessor charge, a misdemeanor, can carry fines up to $1000 and a year in a California county jail. Or it can be a felony with fines at least $1000 and 5 years in a California State Prison. It also may carry the added stipulation of registering as a life-time sex offender.

*Under California Penal Code 290PC.

Why do stalkers stalk you?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Woman can stalk men if the man has broken up with her or if she is attracted to a certain man and is fantasizing over him. She will trick herself into think the man loves her; is waiting for her and wants to be as close as possible to him. Women who stalk can cause martial problems; break ups of young couples and can sometimes be dangerous. It is a psychological issue.

Are law enforcement cameras an invasion of privacy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That depends on where the cameras are and do they have a warrant.

If the camera is on public location and is directed to shoot the streets and not to people's homes, then they are not considered invasion of privacy.

If the camera-operator is an agent of police and has a warrant to pry a private home, then the prying is part of an ongoing investigation and must aim to a legal action to catch a criminal.

Is my ex over me when he is back with his ex?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It really shouldn't matter to you whether your ex will last with his ex that he went back to. Unless you still have feelings for him there should be no reason for this. I would suggest that you just continue on with your life and don't about what your ex is doing.

How can you handle your nosy sister-in-law?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

  • Only you can provide private information to your sister in law. If she persists knowing something you do not want to tell her then bluntly tell her that you would rather not discuss it. Tell her what you want too because generally nosy people will gossip about it and anything you want to be kept private do so. When anyone is persistant about something you do not want them to know you have a right to be blunt and to the point and do not worry about upsetting that person. Loose lips sink ships!
