You will need to consult the catalogs. There are many Olympic stamps issued by many countries commemorating the Olympics in the various locations, including Mexico. Most libraries will have a copy of Scott's Postage Stamp Catalog of the World. First of all, you have to identify the specific stamp or card. That in itself can be a daunting task, but most of the catalogs are well illustrated with lots of information. Once you know what item you have, the catalog will provide a set of prices that can be used to estimate value.

Postal services have been in existance for many centuries. The Romans would send messengers long distances. The Incas had a systerm of runners to deliver messeges.

I'm not familiar with a "golden penny" that was struck for the WA sesquicentennial, but know that there were 2 pure gold medallions struck by the Perth Mint in 1979. One has 2/3 ozt pure gold in it, the other has 2 ozt pure gold in it. Based on A$1650 per ounce gold value, they are either $1100 or $3200 each.

Sheets of stamps are printed using plates. Each plate is numbered to insure they know which plate was used so they can correct errors and problems. The number shows up on the edges of the sheet. The post office knows exactly how many sheets were printed on each plate and collectors therefore know what the rarity of the various sheets are. A Plate Block is four or more stamps in a block with the excess paper with the number on it. Most plates print four sheets on a single sheet of paper, so that there are four possible positions for Plate Blocks.

The catalog value is a guide to what a dealer charges for this stamp in an individual custom order for it. Most of this price is to pay the dealer for the labor in locating the stamp in his stocks, replacing it when it is sold, and making up the order. Most of these stamps are sold as part of a packet or collections or mixes of 100 or more stamps for 1 to 2 cents each if used ,and face or less for mint.

After buying a number of such packets or mixes, a collector usually finds that certain stamps are missing and then he may place an order for just these particular stamps in order to complete his collection and pay close to catalog value for them.

Dealers buy used minimum catalog stamps in large lots , collections or accumulations. They do not want to buy such stamps one at a time or in small lots. They pay less than 1/2 cent each for them. They get their mint stamps from the postal service at face while they are available and buy up accumulations of mint stamps for around 80% face . So, if you just have a few such stamps to sell, your only hope is to find a collector who just happens to need that stamp for his collection. If the stamp is unused, you can use it for postage at its face value. I should add that if the stamp is defective in any way, it is worthless if used.
