Ingredients

• 1 each angel food cake
• 1 pk strawberry jello, large
• 1 pk frozen whipped topping, large
• 1 pk frozen strawberries

Tear the cake into walnut-size pieces and scatter over bottom of 10x13 inch sheet cake pan. Dissolve jello in 2 cups of boiling water and then add 2 cups cold water. Stir until the jello has completely dissolved. Allow to jell a little. Fold in the frozen strawberries and whipped topping which has thawed a little. Pour over cake and refrigerate until set.

Decorate with whipped cream or additional whipped topping and fresh strawberries.

No in general. Many strawberries today are hybrids and so are infertile. There are wild and alpine strawberries which can be seed- grown . There is also a variety called 'Sweetheart ' that can be grown from seed. Companies that sell unusual or heirloom seeds often have them available.

As has been said hybrids do not come true from seed this means you will not get a plant like the parent you may get a better one which is a long shot but usually it is inferior.

Okay, whoever said you can't grow strawberries from their seeds is a ... well, lets just be nice. They don't know beans.

Strawberry seeds can indeed be harvested from the strawberry themselves and planted. Grocery store bought strawberries are indeed often the product of a hybrid: the blending of different "breeds" for superior quality: size, taste, firmness, longevity once picked, disease resistant, etc.

And like we learned in garde school biology, the product of two sets of genes does not always produce a perfect set- for example: dad may have perfect teeth but a big nose; mom may have a perfect nose but bad teeth: and as their child, you could have a) perfect nose and perfect teeth, b) perfect nose, bad teeth, c) perfect teeth, bad nose- d) a bad nose and bad teeth.... make sense?

So while you can indeed plant them, sometimes grocery store-chain bought strawberries usually are a hybrid, and your results may not be as favroable. Occassionally, some are sterile too.

However- if it's all you got, then use em. You never know until you try.

That said; a better choice would be to go to a farmers market or local stand to buy them. Organic strawberries from the grocery store are healthier than the non-organic ones, which are covered in chemicals to prolong shelf life and prevent insects; but organic doesn't always mean completley chemical free. there's certain chemicals that the FDA allows use of, so while it may say organic, it doesn't always mean that.

Buying locally gives you many advantages: fresher produce, b/c it's not shipped; you can ask the grower directly if any chemicals were used during growing; while most store bought strawberries taste bland and watery b/c they've been bred for large size, local bought ones tend to be richer in flavor.It also boosts local economy, and encourages eco-friendly and sustainable practices; since mass farming for stores often means large machines used for harvesting, that requires wider row spacing; which causes erodion and encourages the speed of chemical waste run off into wildlife habitat, soil and water supplies. Mass farming also utilize their entire space; small, local farmers can rotate crops annually and allow soil to replenish itself.

While this process is fairly straightforward, some fruits can't be done as easily. Tomato's, among others require a different process.

"Extract the seeds. There are two methods that can be used for this. One is to allow the fruit to dry and then, holding it over a clean container, rub it between your finger and thumb to allow the seeds to fall off. The other method is to press the pulp of the mature fruit gently through a sieve, leaving the seeds in the sieve, and wash the seeds under running water while they are still in the sieve.

Dry the seeds. The seeds must be allowed to dry thoroughly before being stored. You'll know they are dry when they no longer cling to each other and can be moved easily in the container.

Store the seeds. Keep the seeds in labeled envelopes in a cool, dry place until you're ready to plant them.

Sow the seeds. To start your seeds growing, fill small pots with a commercial seed soil mix. Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the soil, and then cover with a fine layer of the soil mix. Mist with a spray bottle and keep the seeds moist. Transplant the seedlings to the garden area when they are ready.

Repeat the process. Since strawberry plants will remain vigorous for only about 2 years, you'll need to repeat this process regularly to maintain your supply of seeds. "
