Just unscrew the one Phillips-head screw in the corner on the front bar, just under the corner of the hood. Once you do that, I'll seem like it's still attached, but actually all you need to do is jiggle it back and forth and pull straight out from the front of the car. There are a couple of plastic pieces that fit into holes, but they're not screwed to them.

Once you get the signal light assembly out, it's a simple matter of twisting the grey socket out of the lens, and then twisting the bulb until it can be pulled straight out.

Do the reverse to put it back together.

first, inspect the idle air control valve for carbon build up. if it is dirty, you may remove it to clean it, (which i did), or use seafoam. a dirty iacv can dramatically effect idle.

the idle on your subie is set by the electronic control module and even a subie mech will tell you there is no adjustment.

however, and this is not recommended by any mechanic. on the iacv there are two mounting screws that can be turned to make adjustment to the amount of air flow at idle. the iacv is preset at the factory and is not supposed to be touched there after. ive read people who have done it and had no problems at all.

i would try both of these suggestions in their respective order before spending the enormous amount of money on a subie mech or replacement of the iacv.

I assume these are the heated seat switch bulbs you're referring to. I have a '98 and if you lift up the arm rest there are 2 screws you need to remove. The console trim should lift up at that point exposing the switches. Disconnect the wiring to the switch. you should then be able to remove the whole switch from the console. You'll then need to carefully pry the top of the switch btton of the switch assembly. The bulb is wired into a small white rubber boot which you can pull off. Pay attention to how its wired into the boot when you replace the bulb. Hope that helps.

Subaru has been building the Legacy Outback since 1995. Many changes in the control systems have occurred over those years. Newer models do not have a separate cruise control system, it is controlled by the ECM. On those models the cruise control is deactivated when the check engine light is on. You didn't specify the year or transmission of your Outback, so I looked up the owner's manual for 2000 model year. They recommend less than 20 MPH and fewer than 20 miles. Since I assume that you mean for long distances at highway speeds, this would not be a good idea. Your owner's manual has the answer you seek in case instructions are different for your car.

Top radiator hose can collapse while the engine is cooling after being up to operating temperature. Heat expands, cold contracts. If your car is not overheating this is nothing to worry about. Of course you could replace the hose if this troubles you.

Subaru 2.5 liter engine has a problem with head gaskets. If you have not had your head gaskets replaced, that is the first thing I would suspect.

The 16 pin Diagnostic Link Connector (aka Data Link Connector) for the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) Scan Tool is on the driver's side, underneath the dashboard, right below the handle to open the hood.....

The 2001 Subaru all back transmission dipstick is located behind the engine, in the engine compartment. The transmission dipstick should have a yellow handle.

I have a Haynes manual and it shows that you pry off the molding around the shifter. At the 4 corners there are screws that allow you to remove the plastic shift console. Inside on the drivers side is the light bulb. Mine is also out. I have been trying to find out the bulb before I disassembled the shift console. Do you know the bulb spec? It is possible that the selector lock is not disengaging when you step on the brake. Without more information, specifically the year of your car, I cannot answer specifically. My 2007 Outback has a small round plug to the left of the shifter. You use a screwdriver and pry that plug out. Then you insert the screwdriver in the hole and press down. This will release the selector lock. On other years you may have to remove the entire cover around the selector to gain access to the release. Your owner's manual has details on how to perform this procedure.

No one knows where the starter relay is, not even subaru themselves. I called them and they couldn't answer me. How lame is that

It may be the heat shields on the exhaust system vibrating.

buy a haynes repair manual at auto zone or a similar store it will tell you where eveything in your car is and how to fix it.
