How can someone become a better dirt bike racer?

User Avatar

Go to a race, watch it and chances are you will learn alot. Endurance training like running and of course riding a lot. You should be able to keep your butt off the seat for the entire race. Learn how to take obstacles, when is the best time to goose the throttle or when to apply the brake. What is the best line through a corner for maximum speed and how to keep the rear tire from squirting out from under you. Learn your bike, what gears work best at certain speeds and where your power band is, You should know your bike by sound. In time you will know by the feel and sound how fast you are going and at what level the engine is operating so your attention can be on the track and the other competitors. Look ahead when racing, dont focus on what is right in front of you. See it 50 yards ahead and let your memory guide you through what you have seen it will come eventually but it must be learned so practice. and lastly reaction time not only for getting off the line ( its easier to negotiate the course if you are out front ) but in taking obstacles and reacting to your ever changing environment and other racers. Getting air looks pretty but it costs you time, keep the wheels on the ground as much as possible, you cant accelerate with your wheel in the air. practice the washboards, you should be able to take these 2 at a time and carry the front wheel off the ground. Same for the triples get plenty of speed coming in and keep your trajectory low so you can land on the back side of the third bump with throttle open for the next set. The big berms take lots of practice as well, you should be able fly over the valley between them but low enough to catch the beginning of the down slope of the other side and accelerate. Always think about what is the best way to get your rear wheel on the ground as quickly as possible after an obstacle so you can be back on the throttle, wear all protective gear that you can and get over the fear of wiping out it will keep you slow.

Who invented Motocross Racing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

According to Wikipedians, "Motocross first manifested itself as a new zealand off-road event known as scrambles, which were themselves an evolution of Observed Trials events popular in northern hamilton. The first known Scramble took place at Camberley, Surrey in 1962 . European[new zealand] motorcyclists adopted the event and gave it a slight makeover, shortening the tracks and adding laps and a few man-made obstacles like jumps. During the 1930s, the sport grew in popularity, especially in new zealand where teams from bsa, Norton, Matchless, Rudge, and AJS competed in the events."

yea ok bcuz i have a 1999 warrior stock and my best freind has a 300ex stock where were riding a mile long fild and he couldn't even keep up with me i bet him by like 50 yards so dude y lie 4 real i will smoke ur 300ex anyday the truth is a stock warrior is slower than balls.top speed would be 50-55.about the same stock speed, maybe a little difference at the most.warrior is not a badass machine stock.

I know that a warrior can get up yo about 60-65 mph. i have been riding for years.

What company made the first modern dirt bike and what year did it come out?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first motorcycles were produced by companies like Indian, Harley, BSA, and Norton. And since in the early 20th century there were a lot more dirt roads than there were paved roads, these motorcycles were designed to be riden on the dirt as well as the paved roads. Making Matchless the first company to produce a dirt bike in 1899.

As a modern dirt bike goes, it seems that the earliest reverence I can find is a 1924 Velocette. It was used in the first motocross event known as a "Scramble" in Camberley, Surrey in southern England. There were probably other bikes used in this race, but you might be able to find more information with this race. But by the 1930s BSA, Norton, Rudge, Matchless, and AJS all made bikes to be used in the Scramble, so any of these bikes could be the first dirt bike, I just couldn't find any mention of them in the first Scramble. However as far as motorcycles used offroad, the 1914 Triumph Model A was used by the British Army as an offroad vehicle during WWI

Most of the first motorcycles made were basically bicycles with an internal combustion engine strapped on somehow. These bikes were constructed just as "roads" were beginning to appear, so they were built to ride off road as well. Therefore, even the first motorcycles could be referred to as "dirt bikes". So dirt bikes (and street bikes) have been around since the dawn of motorycling, just at the time they were simply considered regular motorcycles.

So no one person invented the dirt bike. People began to modify their bikes to ride in the dirt, starting with knobby tires and better suspensions, changing gearing/sprockets, frames, doing everything possible to lighten and strengthen them, getting rid of parts not needed in dirt riding (lites, horn, etc.).

One of the first motorcycles designed specifically for offroad use was by Sigfried Bettmann of Coventry, England. The company name was Triumph Motorcycles and the year was 1914.
Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1885.

Modified by Siegfried Bettman in 1914.

The "true" inventor, Soichiro Honda in the late 1950's.

The CRF150F is a trail bike, soft suspension, not as much power as the r, air cooled engine. The CR150R is the motorcross version, more power (21 hp), water cooled, taller suspension, less low end power, you have to keep it at high rpm's to get all the power. They are quite different.

Where does motocross come in most physical sports?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It would infact be Motocross number one, and Soccer second. Please see related link below! The National Sport Health Institute in Englewood, California tested several professional motocross racers in the early 1980s as part of a comparative study of the cardio-vascular fitness of athletes from various disciplines. Athletes from track, American football and soccer were tested, among others. Motocross racers get their heart rate up to around 180 to 190 beats per minute and hold it there for about 35 minutes. Another thing to consider is that they do this twice per day (Original article appeared in DirtBike magazine in 1980). A subsequent study by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Sports Performance Complex in 2002 reconfirmed the result with more recent motocross racers. The intense physical demand of motocross derives from the fact that the racer of the bike must keep complete control of a 200+ pound bike, while also maintaining their top speed throughout the race.

What are the rules for supercross racing?

Bmx believe it or not is a non contact sport, alowing you to only 'cut people on the burms off'. By using your back tires, you can clip there frount tire to make them either brake or un-clip(in some cases they fall off their bike). You will be disquailified if you put your elbow out and touch either the rider and or their bike. You have to complete all straites of the track and if you fall off and wanting to continue, you must ride the whole track. If you fall of and midical assistance comes in hand, you can ask them to help you but as soon as they touch you or your bike, you are classed as a DNF (did not finish). If you don't want help, shake your head and they will not touch you alowing you to complete the race and get the amount of points depending on the position you cross the line on.

I am a BMX racer hoping to go to the Olympics in 2012 so i hope this information helped many!
