Why did the Normans defeat the Irish?
Superior skill, organisation and weapons - and force of numbers.
Don't forget that the Normans came in at the request of an Irishman - to help him get his kingdom in Leinster back, so it wasn't just "Normans - v - Irish", it was really a local quarrel in which one side hired foreign mercenaries, who then outstayed their welcome and got so powerful that Henry had to invade to slap them down again.

Is it fair to say that William the Conqueror was stern beyond all measure?
William the Conqueror needed to be stern. He grew up with people trying to assassinate him and late had people rebelling against him. Without his stern measure, it is unknown if he could have conquered anything at all.
According to my dictionary, there is no such word as fendalism. Do you mean feudalism.
It means to be a participant in a contest, to which word it is obviously related. Another related word is contender, which means someone who contends in a contest, rather like a competitor who competes in a competition. It means struggling to overcome struggles or challenges that hinder you from success or achieving something.
"I contend that the sky is blue today" means "I say that the sky is blue today--do you want to dispute that?"

How many beds did king Louis xiv own?
I remember a long time ago reading that he had 413 beds. For some reason I still recall that because I remember it as a little rhyme:
Louis X...I...V had beds numbering 4...1...3
Could be wrong though :)
How did the Domesday survey get its name after the Battle of Hastings?
"Domesday" is an old form of the word "Doomsday".
The Domesday book was a record of land and resources owned in England in 1085-1086. It was compiled for the purpose of levying taxes. The process was so thorough and invasive that people compared it to how they thought God would collect information for the Last Judgement, or Doomsday.

Why did Harold Godwinson William Edgar and Harold Hardrada want to be Kink of England?
Apparently in 1051 Edward the confessor had named William as the heir Harold Godwin(son). His sister was married to Edward and Harold had helped Edward fight many battles during his reign.
Edgar the Atheling was the nearest blood relative to Edward and so felt almost challenged to become king. Harald Hardrada's ancestors were kings of England previously so he felt he had the right to be king.
They obviously were all megalomaniacs and were obsessed with power.

Why did the Battle of Hastings start?
Basically; When Edward the Confessor died sadly he left no direct heir, and the throne of England passed to Harold. However, William of Normandy claimed that Edward had promised the crown to him, and claimed that Harold himself had sworn a sacred oath to relinquish his claim in William's favour.
William prepared his invasion fleet and, armed with delaration of his right to the throne, he crossed the English Channel to land near Pevensey.
Harold, in the meantime, had yet another threat to concern him; his brother Tostig allied with Harald Hardrada of Norway and landed in the north of England. They took York, however, Harold defeated them soundly at the Battle of Stamford Bridge.
No sooner had the battle ended than Harold received news of William's invasion in the south. He marched his war worn men from York to Sussex, arriving there on October 13 to face the Normans.
