Is the musical Rent inappropriate?

Sort of, it depends on what age you mean. I'll just give a brief summary so you can know. Rent is about some people in the late 1990's. Their names are Mark, Rodger, Mimi, Benny, Angel, Collins, Maureen, and Joanne. Out of that group of eight friends, four have AIDS. One uses drugs. One used to use drugs. Four are gay/lesbian. One is a cross dresser. The final things are Mimi is a dancer at a strip club, and in one scene, she is at her job, and in a small shirt/sports bra and shiny tight pants and one of the songs has some sexual references.

What is the best way to learn show lines?

Alright, here I am assuming that you are in a show and need help memorizing your lines... so here goes :S

What I do is when we are rehearsing the scene, use the script the first time then keep working (during the rehearsal) on using it less and less often, basically if you know the start of your line then don't look at it until you know you need it for the second half. Also think of lines more of a response rather than just another line, then it will help you when someone says their line you are simply responding. For some people it takes reading them over and over, OUT LOUD helps so you get the correct emphasis you want and some people like the write them down and write their cue lines as well. Have someone read with you and say the cue lines and have them be "on book" with the script...

Good luck and some other experience actors you are working with might have some good tips for you, especially if they struggle with lines too. :D

Writer's feelings about Phantom of the Opera?

It depends on the movie, you mean the musical, or the drama version which have been several movies made in the last eighty years.

Lon Chaney's Phantom 1925 Classic is the unmasking, when Christian takes his mask off revealing his scarred skull like face.

1943 Claude Rains as the Phantom playing the violin, chiller performance with his mild manners unexpected villain almost gives sympathic feel to the audience for him.Susanna Foster who played Christine, with a lovely soprano who had given up her singing after this movie. Nelson Eddy his baritone voice is super notch form, sings brilliantly with his co-star heroine Susanna Foster as Christine.

The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, it have to be The Music of the Night when the Phantom reveals his love for Christine. The final scene where Christine is trying to save Raoul her fiancee from the misguided Phantom who has never known love and kindness.
