What does it take to be on Broadway?

Overall, not very good. There are TONS of bands out there, but (relatively speaking) only a few make it big.

However, it really depends on your definition of "making it". A new documentary is being filmed that features bands from Phoenix, AZ that have since "made it" on a national level.

Many relatively "unknown" bands have fulfilled their desires to go on tour and perform for audiences across the country. Start by performing locally, as there are many venues that prefer to feature local bands. This will also give you an idea as to how popular your music is.

Are you hoping to "quit your day job" and make a decent living doing nothing but performances? This will only happen if you are very good AND very lucky. Are you hoping to gather a moderate fan base, sell a few CDs, a couple songs on iTunes, and go on tour? Then your odds are relatively decent, and it's a matter of determination.

There are not any hard figures to show what the odds are, exactly, as some bands are obviously a lot more talented (and better financed) than others.

What are three types of theater?

Types of Play

Motor/Physical Play

Motor play provides critical opportunities for children to develop both individual gross and fine muscle strength and and overall integration of muscles, nerves, and brain functions. Recent research has confirmed the critical link between stimulating activity and brain development. Young children must have ample opportunities to develop physically, and motor play instills this disposition toward physical activity in young children.

Social Play

A variety of opportunities for children to engage in social play are the best mechanisms for progressing through the different social stages. By interacting with others in play settings, children learn social rules such as, give and take, reciprocity, cooperation, and sharing. Through a range of interactions with children at different social stages, children also learn to use moral reasoning to develop a mature sense of values. To be prepared to function effectively in the adult world, children need to participate in lots of social situations.

Constructive Play

Constructive play is when children manipulate their environment to create things. This type of play occurs when children build towers and cities with blocks, play in the sand, construct contraptions on the woodworking bench, and draw murals with chalk on the sidewalk. Constructive play allows children to experiment with objects; find out combinations that work and don't work; and learn basic knowledge about stacking, building, drawing, making music and constructing. It also gives children a sense of accomplishment and empowers them with control of their environment. Children who are comfortable manipulating objects and materials also become good at manipulating words, ideas and concepts.

Fantasy Play

Children learn to abstract, to try out new roles and possible situations, and to experiment with language and emotions with fantasy play. In addition, children develop flexible thinking; learn to create beyond the here and now; stretch their imaginations, use new words and word combinations in a risk-free environment, and use numbers and words to express ideas, concepts, dreams, and histories. In an ever-more technological society, lots of practice with all forms of abstraction - time, place, amount, symbols, words, and ideas - is essential.

Games With Rules

Developmentally, most children progress from an egocentric view of the world to an understanding of the importance of social contracts and rules. Part of this development occurs as they learn that games like Follow the Leader, Red Rover, Simon Says, baseball and soccer cannot function without everyone adhering to the same set of rules. The "games with rules" concept teaches children a critically important concept - the game of life has rules (laws) that we all must follow to function productively.

The company with which he was most associated was The Lord Chamberlain's Men (later the King's Men) which was formed in 1594. Golden Age of Greece?

The Golden Age of Greece was after the Greek's wars with Persia which they won, by luck and the help of Athens' powerful navy. The Greek's realized that they needed to become one nation instead of separate city states who almost only shared a language.

Athens as the head, decided to setup the Delian League which all the city states in the alliance paid money to them in which they would create an army and navy in case the Persians tryed to attack them again. A good idea, right? It would have been if Athens hadn't become greedy. They did create a moderate army and navy, but most of the money went to their city. They created temples, theaters, buildings, everything. It was the height of Athens the classical era, or the Golden Age.

Sparta did catch on though and decided that Athens needed to be stopped. They fought the Peloponnesian War for 27 years in which Sparta finally won, BUT destroyed Greece in the process and made them vulnerable to the Macedonian invaders.

Phillip II conquered Greece but liked their culture and let them keep it. It was his son Alexander the great though that spread it across the known world.

How is theatre a collaborative art?

In terms of the actors directly, there is a need of dance training (helps with movement), vocal training, observational skills, and having lived or at least seen and understood some life.

Directors and ADs tend to have been actors at one point, or have at the very least studied it.

Script Writers also tend to have had some experience in the physical acting world, they need to understand how to write things that won't come off as odd when spoken because some things work on the page and not in reality.

Then you get the Stage Manager. They are basically the director at show time while the director is off being the business man. They also are in charge of the backstage crew and very often working in direct tandem with the Tech director.

When you don't have a specific tech design crew the Tech Director takes over that role, and serves as the communication point between actors/crew, and director/light-sound crew.

Then you have the crew. It's typically broken into stage crew, which are the movers and setter-uppers of the stage/props. The tech crew works with the lighting, sound, and other mechanical aspects of the production. The costume crew does what you would expect, costuming and on occasion set design as well when there isn't a department for that in and of itself. The Make-up crew does, you guessed it, hair and make-up.

Then you get into the business side of it with producers (the money), advertisers, ushers, concessions, photographers, filming (if you're up for that kind of thing).

This isn't a complete answer and pretty basic. However, for a smaller scale production the roles can be pared down and paired up.
