How did Greenwich Mean Time start?
The history of GMT can be traced right back to the days of the old mariners, sailing their schooners and sloops. They knew how to work out latitude (how far north or south you are from the Equator which is 0 degrees lat) with sextants but it took an awful lot longer to work out longitude (how far east or west you are.) They couldn't use conventional clocks as they used pendulums and pendulums don't work at sea. Eventually some clever Englishman came up with a clock that didn't need a swinging pendulum. With this revolutionary new timepiece, the mariners could, for the first time, accurately work out how far east or west they were. As The British were the first to "crack" longitude, they decided to put 0 degrees longitude, right through London. It's at 0 degrees longitude that GMT (Grenwich MeanTime) is based. Travel east from 0 degrees longitude and the time advances; travel west from it and it's the opposite.

Not Much If you have a second Year 1938 .But you have a Mauser action on it.That means the barrel is not Winchester. How did you decide that it is a 1938. the only way forsure to know is the Ser.No. on the gun .If it is a Mauser action. It would not have the correct Ser.No.
i have a model 70 serial # 2760 its a 1937- the bolt # should match the barrel# pull the bolt back and look carefully on the bottom and you can see the bolt #
Why are sundials inaccurate for measuring time?
The position of the shadow at a given time of day will vary slightly with the seasons. For example, if at 2:00 p.m. on 31 August the shadow is exactly on the 2, at 2:00 p.m. on 31 October it will be off a little.
Of course for a sundial to be mostly correct most of the time, it has to be positioned according to where it is in the world. And of course, it will never take into account the fact that (in some countries) we switch to Daylight Saving Time part of the year.
Here's an improved answer: Sundials are inaccurate for 3 reasons :
1) There's obviously the difficulty of getting an exact reading for "minutes"
using are relatively crude device like a sundial.
2) Sundials measure "apparent solar time". Clocks use "mean solar time".
"apparent solar time" varies a bit during the year because of the Earth's orbit and axial tilt. "Mean solar time" averages out these differences to give us a day of exactly 24 hours. So, a correction needs to be applied to get from the time the sundial shows to the time on a clock.
3) The other correction that's needed is for your longitude within your particular time zone. (Also "Daylight Saving" has to be allowed for, of course.)
This adjustment is not really because the sundial is inaccurate, but it is needed to get to the standardised time shown by a clock.
