The closest subway stop is the New Utrecht Avenue-62nd Street Station on the N (of the N-R-Q, the yellow line) and the D (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line). Although, actually, these are two connected stations, the 62nd Street Station on the D train and the New Utrecht Avenue Station on the N train.

The 62nd Street-New Utrecht Avenue Station is located near the center of 60th Street. New Utrecht Avenue runs diagonally, and cuts through 65th to 60th Streets between 14th and 15th Avenues. If you are coming from the far west or far east end of 60th Street, and you don't want to walk to the center, you can take the Nfrom one of the surrounding stations.

Besides 62nd Street-New Utrecht Avenue, you can take the N from 20th Avenue (between 64th and 63rd Streets), 18th Avenue (between 64th and 63rd Streets), Fort Hamilton Parkway (between 10th and 11th Avenues and 62nd and 61st Streets), 8th Avenue (between 7th and 8th Avenues, at 62nd Street), or 59th Street (at the corner of 59th Street and 4th Avenue).

Take the Downtown 6 train (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) from 68th Street-Hunter College (at Lexington Avenue) to 51st Street or 42nd Street-Grand Central Station.

Then walk 1 block west to Park Avenue, and 5 blocks south or 4 blocks north to 46th Street.

The 1 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) will take you to Rector Street.

You can also take the 4 or 5 trains (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) to Wall Street. You will exit the subway at the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway. Walk south one block on Broadway, and turn right onto Rector Street.

If you walk one block and find yourself at the intersection of Broadway and Pine Street, then you have walked north instead of south. Turn around and walk back south to Rector.

You can also take the J-Z (the brown line) to Broad Street. When you exit the subway, walk north one block to the intersection of Wall Street and Nassau Street (Broad Street becomes Nassau Street when it intersects with Wall Street).

Make a left onto Wall Street, and walk one block west to the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway (where the Wall Street Station of the 4 and 5 trains is).

Make another left turn, and walk one block south on Broadway to Rector Street, then turn right onto Rector.

The year that the first elevated train operated in Chicago was 1892. That was over a CENTURY ago!

You have several options. Which one to choose depends upon which part of the Bronx you are going to. See the Related Link below for a complete New York City subway map.

You can take the Uptown 2 train (of the 1-2-3, the red line) straight from 34th Street-Penn Station to the Bronx.

Take the Uptown 2 train from 34th Street-Penn Station to 3rd Avenue-149th Street, and transfer there to the Uptown 5train.

Take the Uptown 2 train from 34th Street-Penn Station to 149th Street-Grand Concourse, and transfer there to the Uptown 4 or 5.

Transfer is not available from the 2 train to the 6 train, so if the 6 train is the closest train to your destination, then you will have to take the Uptown 2train from 34th Street-Penn Station to 149th Street-Grand Concourse, and transfer there to the Downtown 4 or 5. Take the Downtown 4 or 5 to 125th Street in Manhattan, and transfer at 125th Street to the Uptown 6train.

You could also take the Uptown 1-2-3, one stop, from 34th Street-Penn Station to 42nd Street-Times Square, and transfer there to the S shuttle train (color grey) east across 42nd Street, from Times Square (West 42nd) to Grand Central Station (East 42nd). Then, either transfer at Grand Central to the Uptown 6(which is a local train) or transfer to the Uptown 4 or 5 express trains to 125th Street, and then transfer at 125th Street to the Uptown 6.

Although the first option requires you to go Uptown, then Downtown, then back Uptown again, it will still probably take less time than the second option. The 6 is a local train, so there are many, many stops from Grand Central Station to the Bronx. As mentioned above, you can transfer at Grand Central to the Uptown 4 and 5 express trains to 125th, and then transfer at 125th to the Uptown 6. But then you'll have to make three transfers. The first option requires you to make only two transfers.

Take the Uptown A or C trains (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to 59th Street-Columbus Circle, and transfer there to the Uptown Bor D trains (of the B-D-F-M, the orange line).

You can take the A-C-E (the blue line) or the B-D-F-M (the orange line) to West 4th Street (at 6th Avenue). The northernmost entrance/exit is at West 8th Street.

Or you can take the N, R or W trains (of the N-R-Q-W, the yellow line) to 8th Street-New York University (at Broadway and East 8th Street).

Or you can take the 6 train (of the 4-5-6, the dark green line) to Astor Place (between Lafayette Street and 4th Avenue at East 8th Street, one block west of St. Marks Place, which is East 8th Street from 3rd Avenue through 1st Avenue).
