Yes you can collect unemployment if you work part time. Myself and my neighbor are both working part time and we collect it. As long as you don't make too much they will pay you the balance of your weekly amount.

"Retirement" is either voluntary(personal decision) or forced (company decision). If you have been "retired" by a company based on age factors set by that company, it would be possible to collect unemployment as it constitutes firing. No, if you read the unemployment laws in all states, if you are not available and able to perform FULL TIME work then benefits will be DENIED. This is because your employer must pay for those benefits, and if you are not available to perform work for them why should they take the blame and pay for it? You cannot collect unless your not working through no fault of your own, and your employer is the reason for you not working anymore. Your situation would be considered a leave under the FMLA, and would result in being ineligible.

Moving out of state after a layoff doesn't disqualify you -- the program is based on wages and payroll taxes, not geography. If you move after starting to get benefits in California, simply continue to follow the rules of the program and send in your biweekly claim forms to the same office as always. You can generally still collect unemployment while collecting social security, unless it is social security disability...even then you still might be able to. I worked for the Unemployment Office & just an FYI, they do not know if you are on social security and are unable to check, so if you do not say anything, they will never know.
