Does University of Phoenix have Semesters or quarters?

As a University of Phoenix Student I believe I can help with this question. Each class at the University of Phoenix is 5 weeks long. Attendance is ongoing, but financial aid and academic year sake, they do split classes into sessions/semesters. Each student would have a different start for their semester/session depending on when they begin. For example, When I began July 2008, my first session was my first 4 classes, five weeks each, so my first session ended 20 weeks later in December. The second session began immediately and ended 20 weeks later in May. I choose to take a two week break in the middle of my second session, so was two weeks behind for ending my second session and beginning my second one, which still began in May 2009 and ends in October. The next one will be October 2009 til March 2010 for me (when I'll actually be finished with my degree). So everything is ongoing and again, each student's semester/session will be different based on when they begin taking classes and if and when they take breaks. Enrollment is open all year round, so there is no average start time either, it's based on the individual and what they want to do.

The University of Phoenix is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools/Higher Council of Learning.

Typically if you attend a Regional accredited school as a freshman, you are going to take a lot of general education type of classes your first year, a nationally accredited school will have more of a focus on the degree itself, about 70% towards the degree or core classes and 30% towards general ed. and college core. A nationally accredited school has to meet the same standards as a region. Nationally accrediting agencies are recognized by the DOE (Dept. of Education) such as ACICS.

Is the University of Phoenix Teaching Degree recognized in Michigan?

The University of Phoenix (UOP) has the preferred regional accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Therefore the coursework and degree you complete at the school will be recognized by all other schools, colleges and universities, as well as employers. That being said, you will have to inquire about what you have to do to be state certified, and this means in any state and no matter what college or university you graduated from. I would suggest to contact the state Board of Education in the state you wish to teach. You may have to do nothing, or whatever they direct you to do. Still, UOP is a good school with the appropriate accreditation, so that end is fine. Personally, you should not have a problem.
