"Cox" is short for the Navy term "Coxswain". Coxswains are essentially small boat pilots; the term is applied to those who pilot/steer craft anywhere in size from a small yacht to a rowing scull.

In WWII, Coxswains also piloted amphibious landing craft (e.g., Higgins Boats) during amphibious assaults in all theatres of war.

The Coxswain duty is usually performed by a Boatswain's Mate.

The ship with the longest active service of any commissioned Naval vessel is currently the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). Though the USS Constitution is still an active commissioned Navy vessel, her commission is ceremonial in nature only and she only performs ceremonial and historical functions.

The first Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the Enterprise also has 4 screws, rather than two which most other carriers have. Commissioned in November 1961, she is scheduled currently to be decommissioned after her current supply of nuclear fuel runs out, probably within the next 5 or 6 years.

Yes, you can. The degree of curve cannot be more than 30 of Thoracic and 20 of Lumbar. You can't join also if it has an obvious affect on physical performance. I personally just signed up and am fully processed to go into Airborne Rangers and I have a massive upper curve. It's all about endurance, if I can join the Army Rangers with an upper curve, you can join the military too! Stay happy, tell yourself you're healing, and workout your back muscles and you can join the military with scoliosis.

I tried to enter the army many years ago, I was turned down, I had my Scolisois surgery in 1989 and they would not entertain me joining at all, you will be asked to have a medical anyway, if their medical professor feels you are not fit enough, they will refuse you. It wouldn't hurt to join up and at least find out, their rules may be different now, however, because I had surgery I was deemed not fit enough, my curve was 76º at surgery. Having a good muscle core will help your spine and therefore the army may well be good for your Scoliosis, they will at least keep you fit and supple, there are many Ballerinas with Scoliosis but because they have very fit muscles in the spine, they hardly notice pain or problems, until they stop Ballet! ;) I hope all goes well for you and that you are accepted into the army. This question really depends on where your curve is, what the degree of curve you have and what position you would assume in the army. For example, I had surgery in 1989 to correct my Scoliosis and I could not entertain going into the army (depsite the fact they wouldn't take me), I can't pick up heavy objects and I certainyl couldn't run with a back pack on! Exercise is good for a Scoliosis curve, if you have fit strong back muscles, this will support your spine more, if you have a 20º curve you shoukdn't have problems, however if you have over 50º curve, you are considered for surgery, the army would not allow you entry for this reason.

Lieutenant William Calley was convicted of murder for his role in the March 1968 My Lai massacre, which left hundreds of Vietnamese civilians dead. Calley ordered the men of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, Americal Division to shoot everyone in the village. He himself rounded up a group of villagers, ordered them into a ditch, and then mowed them down with machine gun fire. Sentenced to life in prison, Calley was seen as a scapegoat for the Army's failure to instill morale and discipline in its troops. Upon appeal, his sentence was reduced. He was eventually released from prison in 1974. He later found work in the insurance business.

If currently serving, you may wear the dress uniform. Persons that are retirees or honorably discharged veterans may wear the dress uniform to attend a parade or patriotic celebration on a State or National Holiday.

All Navy and Marine Corps Commissioned Officers are allowed to wear swords with a ceremonial uniform. It makes no difference of whether or not they're a Navy SEAL or not.

If you're talking about combat swords, SEAL personal weapons are the individual operator's choice, though swords are a bit clumsy for today's combat techniques. A small knife can do the job a lot better and with less noise.

The qualifications one needs to join the Canadian Navy are as follows: one must be a Canadian citizen, meet the medical standard, must be at least 17 years of age with parental consent, must have completed up to a gr. 10 education, and one must be able to hold a security clearance.

*If the flatfooted condition is mild then it is possible that some branches of the United States Military will allow you to enlist. The US Army and US Marines are less likely to accept people with mild flatfoot then the US Navy or US Air Force.

*All branches of the United States Military will not accept people that are severely flatfooted (except rare cases like a specialists in a certain field of study.) Having fallen arches or "flatfooted" is a medical condition and can cause problems with standing, walking and running for long periods. Because this medical condition can cause limitations, that is the reason the US Military does not want these people.

Navy

Big and really strong ships. Can handle lots of damage, they can also fire missiles, toss bombs into the water, fire machine-guns, fire cannons, detect enemy vessels and launch aircraft(some ships can launch aircraft).

Air Force

One or two missile hits will destroy planes. The Air Force have lots of firepower but also have lots of defense. Air Force aircraft can fire missiles, use machine-guns to shoot and drop bombs. These aircraft are also very fast and can travel up to supersonic speed. They can also dodge from missiles very easy.

Yes, the Air Force is stronger than the Navy. They can pack alot of damage to ships by dropping bombs. Ships can only withstand missiles for long but they cannot withstand bombs. Both, the Air Force and the Navy can launch torpedoes to destroy enemy ships. Vessels also can't handle that much torpedoes because torpedoes packs a bunch of damage to ships and can punch a hole right through the vessel.

Zero. The government says there is little need because they are so old, large and ineffecient. My personal opinion is that is not true. They are still important because their guns are so large and they can shoot accurately for many miles. It is also a good place to shoot missiles from and because of their impressive size it is good for morale. There is still one chance, however, to have another battleship in the Navy. There is still one on reserve but would take a long time to fix it up.

Yes, you can wear your NAC in your Air Force uniform - just make sure that you have your former rate/rating and NATOP recorded in your Air Force RIP, so that no one can question it - not that they probably would. I did the above and wear my NAC with my AFSC badge....

The US Navy SEALs were commissioned by directive of President John F Kennedy. He felt that each branch of the US Armed Forces should have Special Forces type of unit. The Army had the Special Forces (Green Berets). The Air Force had PJs and Air Commandos. The Marines had Force Recon. The Navy had Underwater Demolition Teams but their expertise in land warfare was limited. The Navy decided to form an elite unit capable of land warfare and drew from the UDTs. They were all Airborne qualified and Combat Swimmer qualified. The Navy sent the newly formed SEALs to various Army and Marine training schools. On January 1, 1962 SEAL TEAM ONE and SEAL TEAM TWO were commissioned.

Air Force Snipers are Just as elite as everybody else that is a Sniper in the military. Air Force Snipers conduct offensive And defensive missions overseas in a combat zone. They are often called upon to back up Army Rangers, The 82nd, Cct, Tacp And other Air Force/ Army troops during convoy And combat operations in the Middle East.

I think first I will address your ability to spell. You may not be familiar with English, but one word that sounds the same can mean something entirely different from another. So, with that out of the way, "one" should be spelled won.

Second, the MOH, Medal of Honor is not a competition. There are no corpsman that won the medal of honor, we don't go jogging out onto the battlefield in effort to WIN anything except the damned war. In the United States a General is the top grade, with the Lieutenant General a star lower, a Major General next, and a Brigadier General the one star type General. When I was in boot camp, I was taught how to remember the progression by thinking of the sentence Be My Little Girl. It always worked for me.
