What type of ship was the workhouse of European explores?
The workhorse of European explorers was typically the caravel, a small, highly maneuverable ship that combined elements of both Mediterranean and Atlantic designs. Caravels were particularly favored during the Age of Discovery for their speed and ability to navigate coastal waters and open seas.
What does SS mean in a US Navy rate?
"SS" is a warfare specialty designator, signifying a sailor is "Qualified in Submarines". The "SS" itself stands for "Submersible Ships", not "submarine sailor" as many people incorrectly assume.
"SS" designation also comes with its own warfare insignia pin, worn as silver (enlisted) or gold (officer) dolphins abreast the bow of a submarine.
Submarine qualification takes most sailors about 8-12 months, depending on their particular rate and workload aboard ship. Nuclear rates typically take less time, since part of their nuclear training is at a shore station nuclear power plant that is similar to a shipboard reactor.
Unlike other warfare designators (Surface, Aviation), it is mandatory for all submarine crewmembers, be it the lowest ranking sailor or the Captain, to qualify in submarines. Qualification is heavily weighted toward damage control during a casualty.
The rate designation is added at the end of the rate; e.g., my old rate designator was STS1(SS), which fully written out would be "Sonar Technician(Submarines) First Class (Submersible Ships).
I lived in San Diego for many years; when I went to see the USS Midway with my husband, (who sees ghosts), I felt many spirits in the kitchen and dining room. Their presence was overwhelming and we hope to go back soon.
The USS Midway is not haunted, according to the staff that works on board, however there have been several claims by visitors in contradiction to that stance. Local paranormal researchers, and reporters at San Diego Haunted have a listing on their website of suspected haunted locations and urban legends.
What is the abbreviation for officer?
I would like to mention here that Office Manager has no known abbreviation in the English language. Words like Dep't, sos, ltd, have always been known. However, Office Manager loses its meaning and taste if abbreviated and to me would be a new phenomenon. Just write O/M OR OM on a sheet of paper and ask your friend what it means. He can make neither tail nor head for it. Believe me.Thus, its usage should be abhorred by all means. Jabhad.jabhad@Yahoo.com
What are the OSHA requirements regarding dress-code in the Dental field?
There are no OSHA dress codes for dental offices or other activities. OSHA does require that each employer assess the workplace and work assignments and require that employees use protective clothing and equipment appropriate to the hazard.
In that regard, most dentists and dental staff should follow generally recognized good practice to protect themselves and their patients from possible contamination.
Each team member should wear PPE (personal protective equipment) while working on the patient. PPE usually consists of gloves, mask, face shield or goggles and gowns.
Gowns should be water and splash resistant in order to avoid possible soaking of contaminated body fluids (saliva, blood) through the cloth and getting onto the operator's skin. Also a gown should have a long sleeves with cuffs, be long enough to cover laps when operator is seated and have a closed collar. It should be change in the end of each day or earlier if it becomes soiled.
Gloves and masks should be changed for each patient and never reused. Masks should be changed earlier if they become wet and gloves should be changed if torn.

United states navy insignia for communications yeoman?
I believe it was a quill crossed by a lightnining bolt. The quill designates the duties of a yeoman and the lightnin bolt designates the duties of a Radioman. The rating was disestablished in 1974 and this rating symbol is now used for Communications Technician.
I was a Communications Yeoman from 1968 to 1971, when I was promoted to Radioman Second Class. The insignia was crossed quills, exactly the same as it was for the Yeoman rating. The insignia you describe is for what then was called the Communications Technician rating, now Cryptologic Technician. Many of the CT duties duplicated those of the RM and CYN ratings, the difference being that CTs belonged to the Naval Security Group, or SECGRU, whereas RMs and CYNs were general Navy ratings. Hope this clears up any confusion.
The CYN insignia was a crossed quill and lightening bolt. The rating only went up to E4 or CYN3. To advance higher, the petty officer either took the test for Yeoman (YN2) or did the courses and pass the test for Radioman (RM2). The Navy dropped the morse code requirement. I went to CYN "A" in Norfolk, VA after boot camp in '69.
I was in the Navy from 64-70...The only ship I was on that had CYNs was the USS Shangri-La CVA-38...I was on her from 66-68...The CYN insignia was cross quills only, no lighting bolt...This is a photo of a Radioman (me) and my best friend, a CYN, on the Shang on liberty in Toulon, France in 1967...
How do you decide whether or not to go to the naval academy?
I love that you are interested in the Naval academy - it is the first goal in my life that I have actually worked hard for.
which brings me to your question - it is a big decision to commit yourself to the us armed forces, when you enter the us naval academy that is what you are doing commiting yourself to the us navy or marines in exchange for an education that would be worth 1/4 of a million $. the decision should be yours - you wouldn't do as well if you were forced, so make sure it is what YOU truly want after that keep in mind the dedication it will take, the service academies have competition comparable to IVY league schools like Harvard.
After reading this think the whole thing through .. discuss it with friends and family - but remember not to make the decision based on some one elses point of view ... Good Luck !!
