Same as all other cars, it senses crankshaft angle so that the engine control module can apply spark to the fuel at a precise time to achieve full combustion with minimal emissions. there's usually also a camshaft sensor, and many vehicles will use the camshaft sensor if the crankshaft sensor fails to provide limited functionality (limp home mode). If its dead, you'll have to replace it for the engine to operate properly. I don't know if your vehicle has any mileage limits on limp-home mode.

It's very simple. First raise liftgate and look at taillight you see two phillip head screws, remove and lift out light and unplug. You will never do anything so easy in your life!

It is very easy to remove front water deflector. Just pull with your fingers and the metal strip will removable. Behinde the metal strip is a plastic trip, this part is removable too with finger.

If it's like the 1999 Astra:- (1) adjust the steering wheel to lowest position. (2) carefully hinge open the plastic screw-covers either side of the steering, behind the wiper & indicator stalks (there are slots in the sides of the screw-covers). (3) undo these screws and the two going upwards in the top of the speedometer surround (Torx 2.0) and gently move the surround out. It's fairly bendable to get the top lugs out but don't blame me if you bend it too much and it snaps!. (4) undo the torx screws in the bottom corners of the instrument display. (5) Above the display, find a (yellow?) plastic handle which goes up 2mm to clear a slot and slides about 2 inches to the left - this is sliding the multiplug out of its socket. (6) Manouver the instrument pack out - I took it out face down , through the steering wheel. (7) locate the bulb behind the odometer. It has a slotted hexagonal lug on it - turn about 120 degrees and it comes loose. (8) Put in the new bulb (12V, 1.5W) which it's best to buy in advance and put it all back together! The Haynes manual suggests taking the steering wheel off first but I didn't find that necessary. Andrew

more than likely if you have had a service done on car or windscreen changed the scuttle panel has not been clipped in right the pollen filter is located underneath the scuttle on the passenger side of the car ..water gets in to the filter and seeps through in to the footwell
