To anyone who knows anything about Scripture, they know that nobody kept the word of God better than Our Blessed Lady so Our Blessed Lord is praising all who keep His Word including His Mother.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is a title given to the Virgin Mary as she appear to Juan Diego on the hillside of Tepeyac near Mexico City in December of 1531. Juan Diego was walking towards the town of Tlatelolco for Mass and catechism classes. The Virgin also appeared to the uncle of Juan Diego, Bernardino, when she cured him of an illness. Bernardino told his nephew the Blessed Virgin had ordered him to relate to the Bishop in what miraculous manne she had cured him. She also told Bernardino her image was to be known as "Santa Maria de Guadalupe" and thus she has been venerated by this title for nearly five centuries. There was no town named Guadalupe.

Her appearance was attested to by a spectacular miracle of the sun which was witnessed by thousands of people and reported in many newspapers at that time. Our Blessed Lady requested the children to have a procession in honor of her Immaculate Conception (words that the children had never heard at that time, and did not understand), and asked the faithful of the world to do penance and pray the Rosary to end the war and to avoid World War II. Why does France celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary?
France is a strong Catholic country. There are many places in France dedicated to the Virgin Mary. One of the most famous places of pilgrimage in the world is Lourdes, which is in the south of France. It was here that the Virgin Mary appeared to a girl, Bernadette Soubirous, in 1858. She is now a saint.
In 1830 the Virgin Mary appeared to Catherine Labouré in Paris and told her to design a medal, which is now known as the Miraculous Medal and is worn by millions of people around the world. Catherine Labouréis now a saint too. Many people go to the place in Paris where the apparitions occurred and where you can see St. Catherine Labouré's body in a glass coffin.

Lourdes is a place of pilgrimage today because of Saint Bernadette seeing and speaking to the Virgin Mary there. Many religious experiences have taken place there and people have said to be cured by the water at Lourdes. This is a special place for Catholics.
Lourdes is a place of pilgrimage because in 1858, a local village girl Bernadette Soubirous claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary in a grotto near the village. A spring that subsequently gushed from the cave was said to have healing properties.
Lourdes soon became a place for pilgrimage for many Catholics in the surrounding areas both for prayer and for healing in the waters.
Nowadays, Lourdes is a town that is much larger. I visited Lourdes a couple of years ago partly as a holidaymaker and partly as a pilgrim, despite not being a Catholic (but still a Christian). However, nowadays Christians of all denominations descend on the town to make a pilgrimage to the grotto.
The town, however, is quite horrid. Every other shop is a souvenir shop devoted to cheap plastic effigies of the Virgin Mary or other tourist tat. It is reminiscent of the traders in the Temple that Jesus drove out. However, if you can get past all this commercialism, the area surrounding the Basilica and the grotto is very different.
Immediately one feels in a special place, where commercialism is left behind and instead prayer and worship happen round the clock, and where there is a real feel of God's presence and peace. Whatever the origins of the apparition of Mary the place is still very special and worthy of its place as one of the great centres for pilgrimage.
As for the healing properties of the water, thousands go there every year, and, whilst not all are cured physically, invariably spiritual healing takes place. However, despite the lack of a high percentage of cures, there are many hundreds each year whose recoveries cannot be explained by normal medical science.
