How do you ask your dad to pay for your wedding?
There are many things you must take into consideration before you ask your father:
- You are old enough to realize if your father is struggling financially or, if he is older and is retired. In this case having a large wedding would be selfish on your part and if you want to have a large wedding then be prepared to pay for it yourself.
- Your father's health is not good.
- Your father may be paying alimony to your mother.
- There may be other siblings in your family that are minors. It's costly raising children.
- Don't take dignity away from your father by having a big wedding and the onus of the cost is on the Groom's parents. Your father wants you to be happy, but sometimes some parents just can't afford a big wedding.
It's important that you sit down with your father and simply ask him if other than 'giving you away' at the church is there anything else he would like to be involved with. If he says no, then you have your answer. He may kindly tell you he wishes he could give you the wedding you dreamed of, but simply can't afford it and you are going to have to deal with that. It is also important that you talk to your fiance and his parents about this.
There are solutions to beautiful, but cheaper weddings:
- Garden weddings are beautiful. If your father or your fiance's parents have a beautiful backyard then try to have the wedding there. If not, then start phoning around to 'Park's Boards' and asking what they charge to have a wedding ceremony in that particular park.
- Have the reception either at your father's home or the Groom's parents home or phone around and rent a small hall and get friends to help you decorate. Tewling with mini lights inside are simply beautiful.
- Buy your own flowers if you know someone that is good at arranging flowers.
- Save your money for your own wedding dress! If you can't afford it then borrow someone else's wedding dress or rent one. There are some beautiful wedding dresses that can be rented and sized to fit you. If you are lucky enough to have a relative (and there is time) perhaps they will make the wedding dress for you, but you should go with them and buy the material.
- Don't be afraid to ask your relatives (and discuss with your fiance and family) cooking for your own wedding reception. Some of the rages in the U.S. and Canada are BBQ's with roast beef, chicken dishes, salads, etc. Stay away from the seafood as they can cost a lot depending on the season and where you live.
- Find out if you know someone that makes wedding cakes such as a friend or relative. Often someone in the family will make a wedding cake and some bakeries will do the frosting and decorating and this will cut down on costs.
- No need for a limo! Decorate up the car you have and if it's banged up then ask your father, the Groom or his parents if their car can be used instead of a limo.
- Get married in the Chapel as it's less costly.
The real point of a wedding is to be married to the one you love and to have those you love as guests. It doesn't matter if you have to get married by the Justice of the Peace, on the Beach by a Minister, in a park like setting with a reception at either your father's home or the Groom's parent's home or a hall. The main thing is you are in love and want to celebrate this great event with family and friends. Short of being in a white wedding dress (most young women dream about this) and being with the one you love should be enough.

Although, traditionally, a wedding singer or band is hired to perform at the reception, an orchestra would provide a fabulous and distinguished touch to your wedding. There are things that must be considered, many of which would best to be discussed with both parties involved in the wedding.

Cost of the Orchestra - Estimated by Emusician.com, the average cost of an orchestra is between $50,000.00 to $80,000.00 per performance. If this is a bit outside of the wedding budget, an unusual alternative is to hire an orchestra from Western Europe. After the collapse of Communism in several countries such as Czech Republic, local government's could not afford to finance orchestras. These can be hired for a quoted price of $4,500 to $5,000 per event. A liaison would be needed.
Space of Location- An orchestra can range from 20 to over 80 individuals. Will the venue rented provide adequate space?
Theme of Wedding- Is the wedding classical or modern? The music must match and complement the theme of the wedding as well as the overall mood of the event.
Audience: Since the wedding is as much a family event, as it is a personal event, the amount of guests as well as guest list must be considered. Will there be a majority of children attending, will the guests prefer to dance?

Should a man marry a woman if he knows he is gay and she knows too and they want kids?
If a man is gay and he knows it (and the woman also knows so there are no secrets), and you still want to get married to have children, there is no problem with that. You must realize that once you get married and have children, you should stay together forever! Do not go back on this once you have kids because a child deserves the best of family, not a broken home. If there is a chance that being gay will cause you to feel you are living a lie in the future and possibly split up a marraige, then don't get married. Don't put children through it. Marraige should be permanant and divorce should be an option only if there is abuse. If all that works for both of you, make a good marraige of it, have kids and be happy. A gay man can be happy as a husband and father too. He doesn't have to be living a gay life to be happy. I know one personally who chose the wife and kids, he is very happy after 38 years of marraige even though he still has tendencies and feels he is gay.
If she is your good friend, you can absolutely ask. Although it was thoughtless of her not to explain in the first place, she may have a good reason. So be sure to ask in a way that invites a real answer --don't immediately put her on the defensive. However, if this is how she chooses to express some sort of displeasure towards you, then she does not seem worth your emotional investment.
