No, I think you should probably start out at about 10-15 pounds and work your way up. Trust me, you do not want to start out at 30 lbs. or greater, if you haven't been doing it for so long. Work your way up and look up some excersizing tips online or on Youtube. =)

By downloading the Total Gym PowerGlide owners manual, which has a chart in it, and by using the numbers in the website http://www.statisticool.com/totalgymmath.htm, I extrapolated the numbers for the XL and XLS to be, 6.5, 10.2, 14.0, 19.2, 21.8 and 25.9 degrees. Using the chart in the manual you can determine the % times your weight or just use the chart. Then you can either divide by 1, 2, 3, or 4, depending on the configuration of your setup. I don't know why this is such a big secret to TotalGym. I would think they would want people to know what weight they are using.
Is glute ham raise the same as roman chair or hyperextention?
The glute ham raise is far more difficult. A person entering the gym for the first time can do 10 hyperextention repetitions. The roman chair is a little more demanding, but not by a whole lot so maybe after a month or two a few reps at the very least is a given. With the GHR, even 2yr+ of heavy lifting with above twice bodyweight squat is no guarantee for a single repetition.

Merely staying alive burns off some calories.
And basically the more active you become, the more calories you burn.
Weight loss and calorie burn through exercise is mainly about getting and keeping your heart rate up. And pretty much all kinds of consistent activites, like running, bicycling, swimming, dancing etc etc does a better job of keeping your heart rate up than lifting weights does.
I can do around 1000 cal/hour during intense cardio, but find it really difficult to get past 600 while doing weight training.
Keep in mind that the big thing is your diet. If you are overeating it's pretty much impossible to exercise hard enough to lose anything that way. A snack that takes 5 minutes to eat, like a cupcake, can take one hour to burn off.

Of course. Actually that's a great way to do it. when lifting weights you want to focus on a body part and really get a good workout. You will find that most professional athletes do upper body one day and lower body the next or back and chest one day legs and abs the next day and then arms and shoulders the next day. Remeber to get good definition don't lift weights that are too easy or weights that you can easily do 8 or more reps with at once. you wnat to stress and shcok your muscles so they grow. Each time you work out make it challenging so your musles are like WOW what jsut happned we have to be stronger the next time. make sure you eat a very low fat dieat rich in green leafy veggies and frutis and also lean protein. :]
