Some people don't believe it is fake in professional performance wrestling. But if it is, there are products sold that hold the fake blood (such as gelatin capsules) that can be bitten to make blood come from their mouths. These fragile blood capsules also work by simply smashing one across your forehead or elsewhere to make it look like you have a cut, or it can be pierced with a needle and then smeared on to look like a wound.

Some other methods that have been used, according to WikiAnswers contributors are:

• When the wrestlers have been "beaten to a bloody pulp" and are on the floor, the referee will go to them to "see if they are okay," and then pass them a little sharp pin or needle. When the camera moves away they use it to cut themselves to draw a little real blood.
• Some wrestlers have tape around their wrists or fingers under which they hide a little blade and when they get hit (like with a chair) they cover their face as a defensive move and that is when they cut themselves. This is called "Juicing".
• There is no such thing as fake blood in wrestling. Wrestlers, in order to draw blood, usually conceal a razor (or have the referee carry it) and when they need to draw blood, they cut their forehead and throw the razor away.
• Some guys use chicken blood, it comes in a small plastic bottle.

If fake blood were to be used, it would probably be made just like the blood for movie special effects is made, and some wrestlers reportedly do. So you could also easily make your own some of the following ways, depending on the type of blood you need. Use amounts/proportions according to eye and how you want it to look or spatter:

Fresh or spurting blood from arteries or flowing from capillaries (like when you cut your finger) is bright red because it has its hemoglobin carrying lots of oxygen in it and that makes it more red. Make it by mixing red food coloring in white (clear) corn syrup (the lazy man's way instead of making your own syrup from granulated sugar and boiling water).

Old pooled blood gets thicker and darker. Make it by mixing the red food coloring in the corn syrup and then add chocolate syrup.

Older blood that is spattered or not pooled is a little thinner than pooled and thickened blood, so make that mixture as above with the chocolate syrup and then add a little water to thin it.

Fresh flowing blood from veins has less oxygen than arterial blood and it is also carrying some wastes from the body's cells that makes it darker. [But, it is not blue like is often incorrectly indicated even sometimes in school.] It is darker red but it is a "cooler" shade of red and that can be made using some blue in the mix. Make it like the pooled blood with food coloring, corn syrup, chocolate syrup and then a small amount of liquid detergent (like dish washing liquid) that is a blue color just to get a darker dirty red.

However, remember that when you add the detergent, you can't use it for blood to come out of your mouth, so instead of the detergent when you want to have the blood come from your mouth or be on your face, you can use honey. So what you'll have in your mouth is corn syrup, honey, food coloring and chocolate syrup.

Additional uses for costumes:

To make alien blood that is green or blue, just substitute the green or blue food colorings for the red.
