Why did Americans support the Allies?

The Americans entered because the Germans sank the Lusitania. The Germans were trying to keep the US out of the war since our military was one that terrified people. Then the Germans sent a Zimmerman telegram to the US conspiring to create a war between Mexico and the US. Once it was intercepted by another nation, the US declared war on Germany and joined the Allied Powers.

What factors forced the US to enter the world war 1?

1. The German's practiced Unrestricted submarine warfare, which means they would attack anything and everything in the seas. A British ocean liner, The Lusitania was torpedoed and sank within an hour. 128 Americans lost their lives. We wanted revenge. 2. A telegram was intercepted in London from Germany to Mexico, suggesting a secret alliance that if America attacked German land, Mexico would attack the states, and if they won, Mexico would get back Texas. This has been labeled The Zimmerman Telegram. Because it was made public, the deal never went through. Again, this made us madder at Germany.

What factors led to the rise of totalitarian leaders after World War 1?

The rise of nationalism was the main factor. This rise in nationalism was brought about by economic collapse in defeated nations. The economic collapse was due to the conditions set in the Treaty of Versailles, which gave the defeated nations weak governments. It was thought this would prevent them from becoming powerful enough nations to be able to start another war.

What brought England into World War 1?

Britain had an alliance with Belgium. Belgium was invaded by Germany in order to advance on France. Therefore, Britain declared war on Germany and joined the Allied Powers.

However, this was mainly an excuse to go to war. Really, Britain was opposed to Germany for many years since Germany started expanding itself as an overseas empire in 1885, which made Britain feel threatened. When World War I broke out, Britain jumped at the opportunity to fight Germany.

Who were the Allied powers in World War I?

In the beginning (1914) the Allied powers were:

1.Great Britain

2.Russia

3.France.

4.Belgium (Belgium fought alongside the allies, but they remained neutral. King Albert did not what to leave Belgium to become fully allied because then the Belgian army should have participated in the big battles of the French and Great Britain)

5.Serbia

In 1917:

6. The US joined. but the United States didn't join until the Zimmerman Telegram was sent; which was a telegram from the Foreign Secretary of the German Empire, Arthur Zimmerman, to Mexico stating that if the U.S. was to announce war on them, that Mexico was to declare war on them so as to distract the U.S. and hopefully stop the United States from joining WWI. The telegram was intercepted by Great Britain and publicly announced in the U.S. which caused the United States to enter WWI. The United States was also upset with the sinking of the British passenger ship (which really contained some war-ready materials, but that's a different story) the Lusitania. The ship was shot down by German submarines. This act angered the United States to become involved with the war. In addition, the United States wanted to make sure that all the money and resources they sent to Britain and France to be repaid.

These are the ones that you would normally learn about:

1.Germany

2.Russia

3.United States

4.Italy

5.Poland

The Allied Forces or Triple Entente were Great Britain, France and Russia. The Triple Alliance was made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. In the middle of the war, Italy switched sides.

The Allied forces consisted of several European countries, as well as the inclusion of North America. The most prominent and most told of would be France, Britain, Russia and the United States. However, many more were included in the Allied powers, Japan for example was indeed part of the Allies in World War I. Wrong - it looks as though the original answers relate to WWII, not WWI., especially with the reference to France in 1940.

'Russia' not Soviet Union. S U did not exist until after WWI

Not Saudi Arabia - did not exist in WWI

Not Iran - was Persia until 1935.

Not Yugoslavia - was in provinces as part of Austria Hungary until after WWI.

Not Poland - was part of Russia until after WWI.

Ditto many others, including Palestine, whic was part of Turkish Empire.

What is the force that makes the earth move?

If an object is moving initially, then no force is needed to keep it moving.

The earth formed out of clouds of material that revolved around the young sun shortly after its birth.
Since the earth was in motion as it formed, and there's nothing to stop it, it continues in motion.

It's true that a force is required to CHANGE the speed or direction of an object's motion. The earth's direction
of motion is constantly changing ... and it winds up traveling a path around the sun that's very nearly circular.
The force that accomplishes that constant 'bending' of the earth's motion is the force of gravitation that draws
the earth and sun toward each other.

Absolutely. The U.S. was selling weapons, munitions, and other supplies to both warring nations. This was before they actually got involved in WWI. Even when they were involved, the war ended so quickly afterwards, that the U.S. never really suffered any significant losses on military spending or debts.

Why did Germany get involved in ww1?

There are a number of reasons why Germany became involved in WW1. To summarise them they are:

1. From 1900 onwards Germany was a rising Industrial power. It needed outlets for the bulk of its manufactured products. Unfortunately for Germany most of the areas to which it might export, or from which it might obtain raw materials were controlled by Britain.

2. The British navy at that time ensured that no predator could impinge on its contacts.

3. realising that the only way for Germany to expand into world markets or obtain a 'place in the sun' i.e to have some leverage at international diplomatic meetings was to CHALLENGE BRITAIN.

4. The challenge could only be mounted if Germany could outstrip British NAVAL STRENGTH. Hence in 1904 with the passage of a naval Bill, the race began to outbuild the British Navy. The Germans were not successful in this.

5. The Germans believed that because of the 'alliances' that Britain had with France and Russia in particular, that Germany was being encircled. It thus sought to offset this by an alliance with Austria Hungary.

6. When the Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire was assassinated in Sarajevo by a Serb Nationalist this provided the key to the German involvement in WW1 as follows:

a) Eventually Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia, A SLAV NATION.

b) Serbia appealed to Russia (THE SO CALLED PROTECTOR OF THE SLAVS) for help

c) Russia, uncertain of its prowess to defeat Austria Hungary, appealed to France for help. This was granted, especially as Russia owed France a great deal of money.

d) with this coalition against it Austria Hungary appealed to Germany, who in order to maintain the confidence of its ally, agreed to fight alongside Austria Hungary should it come to all out war.

e) Germany was not certain of i. the extent that Britain would commit to all out war ii. that Britain would be able to survive an all out war against the Central Powers.

Finally, the outcome would settle once and for all the German ability to expand into foreign markets if it could defeat the British navy.

One might say, therefore, that Germany willingly allowed itself to drift iinto war, inspired by the boastings of the Kaiser and the German Military Commanders.

Did the US gain land in the War of 1812?

mexican cession

The comment is correct- Mexico had no direct connection to the War of 1812.

Not much new territory was gained during the war of 1812. The Gulf Coast which was supposedly under Spanish control was occupied by US forces and after the War, the US annexed all of Florida. The British forts in Michigan were removed.

How were soldiers enlisted and went to World War 1?

The practical side was very simple. One went along to the nearest recruitment centre. I just wonder, however, whether you mean 'how could people enlist' from a moral point of view, or something like that. If so, please indicate. It would also be helpful to say which country or countries you have in mind. In the European countries (except Britain up to 1916) military service was complusory for most able-bodied adult men.

Which of the following true about African Americans during world war 2?

Discrimination existed within military policies. Black leaders continued to fight discrimination during the war. Blacks were not treated equally within the military.

List and describe the five long term causes of World War 1?

Long Term Causes

Militarism was glorification of the military. More money was put into the military to increase arms and power of each country. This made each country ready and willing to fight one another.

Alliances were agreements between two or more countries to defend each other from any attack on one another from countries outside of the alliance. If any one country was attacked the other members of the alliance was automatically forced into the war as well, even if they did not want to fight. This is why the war was on such a large scale

Imperialism Built resentment between the powers. Not every country got the land they wanted or their colonies had been taken from them by other countries and some countries got none at all.

Nationalism was pride and devotion for one country. All of the countries citizens were ready to fight in order to protect their homeland from invaders and help their country become a world power.

i don't remember 5th one...
