They might be, if the pandas bred in zoos were released into the wild.

Otherwise, they panda is captive - and while we cannot assess what a panda 'thinks', (never mind what it might think about) we can surmise that as we would not be living our lives to the fullest if we were in captivity, so captive pandas are somehow not achieving the best life possible for them.

Some valuable information was gained from studying pandas in zoos in the past, but I doubt that they still need to be 'kept' to be of use to science. Far better to study them in their natural habitat, and to protect that habitat on their behalf.

The Moa were a group of 10 species, all being flightless birds, with origins in New Zealand. All species of this group are generally considered to have become extinct between 1500 and 1700 AD. You would not see them in a Zoo or Park today, for living exhibits. You might be able to find skeletons or models, or some other types of reconstruction exhibits for extinct species in museums. Yes! yes they do! in zoos, they are treated well and have enough room for the animals to move around. Animals live longer in zoos, too. that is because they are given nourishment and care. zoos cure the sick animals, and they save the exinct! if there was an exinct animal, the zoos that still own that animal can breed and make more of its kind! So zoos do more good than harm!

Zoos are not classified as a community but a habitat.

The Buddha wanted all sentient beings to be free and happy. Keeping wild animals in small cages or confined areas does not meet that. In some cases, in which certain animals are endangered, keeping a small number in captivity to ensure thier survival is better than having them die out. But the goal should be to have these living beings in large, open pastures, such as like some of the safari parks that have extremely large ranges for the animals if they can not simply be left alone in the wild.
