Most likely, for writing The Chronicles of Narnia(especially The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).
During his life he was very well-known as a Christian apologist, also.
During World War II, London was a dangerous place. The city was subject to a period of sustained bombing from the German Luftwaffe (air force) and so thousands of city children were sent to stay out in the country, where it was believed they would be safe. Country people opened up their homes to these children, taking them in for months at a time to provide a safe haven for them.
Efreets are ghoulish spirits featured in some fantasy novels, such as some of CS Lewis's "Narnia" books, e.g. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. They actually riginate in Islamic mythology and are spirits known for their strength and cunning. The word may be spelt ifreet, afrit or afreet. In some texts, they're large and winged and found particularly around old ruins. In their application to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, they are essentially servant spirits to the evil White Witch.
He loved Psalm 19 and said it was his favorite Psalm.
The book is actually christian. When you look at it from another perspective, you can see that the Lion, Aslan, is Jesus Christ, who gave his own life for a sinner's(Edmund), knowing that He would not be spared pain or suffering, even though He would rise again. The White Witch is Satan, always working for the greater evil and her own gain while clashing with Aslan(Jesus). Edmund is the sinner, representing the human race. The Stone table, which cracks when Aslan rises is the cross. And the Final Battle, is like the future Armageddon, where God/Jesus/the holy Spirit battle it out once and for all, with, of course, Aslan(Jesus and the trinity) winning. In the last book *SPOILER* the human group, lucy, peter etc. even go to heaven. The entire series is not completely based on this, it is still a fantasy book, but yes, a little. It's also quite a good book.
Because Tolkien was a devout Catholic.
Mrs. Macready is Professor Digory Kirke's housekeeper. The four Pevensie children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy come to live with the professor during World War II. Many parents are evacuating their children out of London, England. They fear for their children's lives. The German Air Force constantly bombs the city.
In C. S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Mrs. Macready is a stern woman. She informs the four children, there is to be no shouting and running throughout Professor Digory Kirke's house. The children are not to disturb the Professor from his studies.
Professor Kirke has a large estate in the country. Mrs. Macready efficiently runs the house. She loves the house and its contents, but shows no affection toward the motherless orphans. She leaves the children to find their own pleasures.
Mrs. Macready loves to conduct tours of the house. It is her favorite duty. She instructs the children not to be seen by any of the tourists.
It is this instruction which has the Pevensie orphans hiding in the Wardrobe. One day, they are playing. They overhear Mrs. Macready operating one of her tours. The group is advancing toward where the children play. They hide in the wardrobe to escape detection.
Of course, this is the magical wardrobe. The wardrobe is a portal to the land of Narnia. Narnia is under a spell cast by Queen Jadis, the White Witch. The hundred-year-old spell has Narnia in a deep freeze. In The Witch, the Lion and the Wardrobe, Narnia is all snow and ice.
