Having learned more about the myths and stories of Western civilization, I am understanding more how study of the humanities (art, history, and literature) can be used to help people better understand and communicate with one another. It is obvious that the study of humanities is not just a college course, but it is an ongoing process and practice in life.
The humanities can first be used to understand the past which has created the present. The culture which we have was shaped by the past. Facts, findings, and literature of even thousands of years ago have influenced our world today. Knowing this past can allow people to understand our present; knowing how we came to this present helps us to communicate about it and the future.
The study of the humanities can also be used to realize differing interpretations of life and history. Studying facts of the past helps to understand literature of the past. Art reflects the cultures of the past, and shows how we achieved what we have today. For example, the Song of Roland was very biased about the Saracens (Muslims). If one only studied literature, they would have a totally skewed interpretation of who the Muslims were. By studying history though, we know that the battle in this literature wasn't even against Muslims. Also by studying history and religion we can see how Islam developed and what it really is. This is just one example of how the comprehensive study of the humanities can be used to understand the world, and to communicate fairly and intelligently with others in the world.
The humanities are not just part of the college's curriculum. The study of the humanities teaches one how to study and look at how the past developed and how it has impacted today's world. The humanities allows people of different cultures to communicate and understand their sometimes common pasts but present differences. Is Pennsylvania offering a tier 3 unemployment extension?
(Sept 2009) H.R. 3548 was passed by the US House of Reps and is waiting on the US Senate for a vote. After it passes it will need to be signed into law by the US President. Then Federal Tier 3 (additional 13 weeks which may be amended to 20 weeks by the US Senate) would then be applied to Pennsylvania and a few other states with highunemployment. The PA State congress already extended 7 weeks if you are waiting for Tier 3 from the Feds to kick in. I'm not sure about the other extensions by the State of PA but I think it begins at 13 or 20 weeks. Please check Google for more updates on all this. Thanks.
Personally I'm waiting another week longer for the Federal Tier 3 to be signed into law before I start the PA state version, which is a paperwork nightmare.

The term is just generally applied to recent budget/tax laws that include many, many things hopefully geared to stimulate the economy....likley never again a check to people -- as that almost caused more troubles than it helped and simply was one of many parts of that package that did not work well at all.

I talk to my customers and other people that may need or want my product. I am really interested in them and if my product can help them. Because I am the owner, developer, creator of the product, I have a genuine interest in my product helping others (like me). I put myself in their shoes. I find out what they want and give it to them.
1.) I use a web site and many forms for them to fool around with. My forms talk about them, not me. I want them to talk about themselves because then I can figure out which of my products will work best for them.
2.) I ask them to join my face book account. I don't want them to see all the chatter on my facebook page, so I create a face book 'group' of others who are like them... and are interested in talking about the product. How it is working for them. How they were before and after. How I take care of them (or not). I have a direct link to them this way.
3.) I put lots of photos of my products up on face book and declare that if they come to face book they will see and get first hand information BEFORE my web site.
4.) I created a web site for my products 13 yrs ago and I bought several domain names that were easy to remember rarek9.com is one of them. On my web sites, (I started with one now I have over 20 or so) I put information and photos that explain and give the customer education and knowledge about the products. I do not beg them to use me, I do challenge them in that my product is the best on the market and I take pride in them. I also give a FULL lifetime guarantee on my product! I can do this because I believe in my product and my product does work that good!
5.) I put myself on lots of search engines all over the internet. I find out what the 'people' want.... and I use enticing words that bring them in. You first must get them interested and get them to click on more info. Photos do that the best.
