Do the majority of the people with brain cancer live or die?

The brain cancer survival rate indicates the percentage of people with a certain type and stage of brain cancer who survive the disease for a specific period of time after their diagnosis. In most cases, statistics refer to the 5-year brain cancer survival rate. The 5-year brain cancer survival rate is the percentage of people who are alive 5 years after a brain cancer diagnosis, whether they have few or no signs or symptoms of brain cancer, are free of disease, or are having treatment for brain cancer. The brain cancer survival rate is based on large groups of people, and it cannot be used to predict what will happen to a particular patient. No two patients are alike, and brain cancer treatment and responses to treatment vary greatly.

Tumour is caused by various causes, cancer can cuses tumours. Tumours are caused when cells begin to divide very rapidly. The cells may then clump together to form a tumour. A benign tumour will only threaten health if it is so large that it requires to be removed.

Why do some people get skin cancer yet others dont?

Light skinned people, especially blue-eyed people or people with freckles are far more likely to get skin cancer than people with plenty of natural pigment in their skin. We (light skinned people) should not go into the sun without LOTS of sun-blocker. Dermatologists will all tell you that sun exposure is accumulative. We can only get so much sunlight in our lives, then we will get skin cancer.

Is the risk of dying from asbestos exposure greater than the risk of dying from long-term smoking?

The risk of dying from asbestos depends on how intense the asbestos exposure was, how often it occurred, and how long it lasted - and whether you were using any protective measures. The risk of dying from smoking depends on how long you have been smoking, how many cigarettes you smoke per day, and sometimes, how long has it been since you stopped smoking. So for some the risk of asbestos is greater than the risk of smoking and for others the risk of smoking is greater than the risk of asbestos. The important things to know are that: # Both smoking and asbestos exposure are risks that are avoidable, # You can take action to reduce your risks, even if you don't completely avoid the exposures, and # If you both smoke and have an asbestos exposure, your total risk is not simply the sum of the two risks, but the product of them (i.e. the risk of one multiplied by the risk of the other)

How can you get a cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer has multiple risk factors - not just one cause. The majority of cases do come from a sexually transmitted virus called HPV. Genital human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). The virus infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital areas of men and women, including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), and anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, and rectum. You cannot see HPV. Most people who become infected with HPV do not even know they have it.

The other factors can include: multiple sex partners, smoking, weakened immune system, genetic factors, etc.

Cervical cancer often has no symptoms until it is more advanced. For this reason, it is important for women to get screened regularly for cervical cancer. (Pap Test)

Can a person overcome stage 4 cancer in the liver?

It is possible to survive any of the 4 stages of cancer, but stage 4 is the least likely to survive because the tumor is no longer localized in one place but has metastasized, spawning thousands of small tumors everywhere in the body. Strong chemotherapy is usually required to treat stage 4 cancer (and some of the toxic drugs used for chemotherapy can kill you faster than the cancer itself if they are not carefully managed by the oncologists).

How long does it take to develop pancreatic cancer?

My wife of 40 years died very, very suddenly from pancreatic cancer in Feb 2012. She was a very fit and active woman (she sailed the Atlantic four times. There were absolutely no 'obvious' symptom's, and no pain prior to her being admitted to hospital for standard checks. They found a shadow on her liver, and went looking for the primary which turned out to be a considerable tumour in her pancreas. From diagnosis to death was only six days. After being informed of this pancreatic cancer she was told she likely had 6 to 12 months left...... Unfortunately the very next day it spread to her brain, leaving her in a 'coma' effectively brain dead.....until she stopped breathing about 4 days later. It was all so incredibly fast. The tumour was over 4cm long and had spread to other parts. Likely been developing for many, many years.............Hindsight is wonderful. Looking back over the past three to four years (perhaps longer) she was on occasion doing some slightly 'strange' things. Dutch by birth she sometimes reverted to speaking Dutch for no reason at all, and seemed at times to have a 'split' personality (sending odd cards, and becoming obsessed by fictitious / fabricated incidents). I feel the pancreatic cancer was affecting her brain gradually over years........... eventually it killed her very quickly shutting down the brain completely. So sad. Miss her so much.
