When is the best time to go to Croatia?

April through September

April - too cool to swim but inexpensive pricing. Cultural season in full swing in the capital Zagreb. The Zagreb Biennial of Contemporary Music and the Queer Zagreb FM Festival are going on.

May and June - great for outdoor activities (not skiing). Italian and German tourists have not arrived yet so prices are still resonable. But you have to watch out for the end of May and begining of June because there are lots of loud student on feild trips around the cultural highlights and hotels.

July and August - most expensive months and popular places can become uncomfortably crowded. The advantages of high-season travel are the extra boat lines to take you to the islands and organised excursions to take you to out-of-the-way highlights.

September - possibly the best month to visit since it's not as hot as summer, the sea is still warm and the crowds will have thinned out. Off-season accommodation rates will be in place, and fruit like figs and grapes will be everywhere.
