Cycling Benefits

  1. Regular cycling improved cardiovascular health. When you engage in cycling, your heart rate increases, promoting efficient blood circulation and oxygen delivery throughout your body. This can reduce the risk of heart diseases, such as stroke, heart attack, and high cholesterol levels.

  2. Cycling is an excellent way to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight. By pedaling regularly, you can increase your metabolic rate, which aids in burning fat and shedding excess pounds. Cycling can be an effective way for weight management.

  3. Cycling regularly can have a positive impact to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and overall happiness. Additionally, cycling outdoors allows you to connect with nature, providing a refreshing and uplifting experience.

  4. By pedaling against resistance, lower body muscles are engaged and strengthened over time. Regular cycling can lead to improved muscle tone, increased endurance, and enhanced overall strength.

  5. Cycling, can enhance your immune system's functionality. When you cycle, your body's overall circulation improves, allowing immune cells to travel more efficiently throughout your body. This increased circulation helps in combating infections, illnesses, and other diseases. A stronger immune system can result in fewer sick days, allowing you to lead a more active and fulfilling life.

  6. Cycling is a form of aerobic exercise that requires deep and controlled breathing. This can help strengthen your respiratory system by expanding lung capacity, increasing oxygen intake, and improving lung function. Regular cycling can reduce the risk of respiratory conditions such as asthma and improve overall lung health.

How many calories did you burn if you are 100 pounds and you were riding your bike for 45 mintues?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This depends on the intensity and type of exercise as well as the level of difficulty. For example 10 minutes on a treadmill might use 250 calories for one person while another would only burn 140 because they where incapable of using a more difficult setting. Also 10 minutes on a cross trainer may burn 200 Calories as it uses different muscles.

It is therefore impossible to give a answer to the above question as the number of calories burnt depends on more than just length of exercise.

User Avatar

How fast bicycle accelerate?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That's very dependent on the strength of the cyclist and the type of bicycle used.

Race BMXers are probably the fastest to reach their top speed, but track sprinters have a higher top speed. The way humans work and the way bicycles work means that full acceleration from standstill is rarely used, as a gear that makes for a good start will also mean a low top speed. And a gear that makes for a good top speed will make the bike sluggish at the start. Having a bike with multiple gears tends not to help that much, as very few shifting systems will work particularly well when shifting under full Power.

How many people cycle in the UK each day?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If counted, the number of daily bicycle riders would easily reach into the millions. Many of them would be outside the U.S. because a number of countries have urban areas where the primary mode of transportation is the bicycle. Hard data is difficult to come by even in the U.S., so gathering it in other countries is probably at least as difficult.

Is it legal to ride a push bike with one brake?

Good question. Riding no-hands is probably not illegal as such, but it can probably be seen as endangerment of others, due to the limitations in controlling the bike like that. And endangerment is always punishable regardless of how it's being done.

Is math needed for sports?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Math is used in netball when the umpire or the scorer works out whose centre pass it it after a goal has been scored. This is because the team that has the first centre pass of the game will have the centre pass for the goals which total even numbers (for example 2-4 or 17-11) and the other team will have the centre passes when the score adds up to an even number (eg 2-1 or 21-16). This changes after each interval so the team that had the first centre pass od the game will change and have the centre passes when the score adds up to an odd number and vice versa. Percentages are taken in netball. For example, a shooter may shoot 7 ot of 10 for a quarter. The shooter then shot a 70% and the coach can look at his and make decisions based on this.

What should you wear under cycling shorts?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You wear compression shorts like boxer-briefs under soccer kits ect. They are comfortable to wear but kind of like tight underwear. The nylon- lycra type are comfortable to wear.

Compression shorts are tight but not too tight, and are very comfortable to wear. I would not recommend wearing any underwear under them. Some are designed to use a "cup" for certain sports. They are fine just the way they are, even for non-sports reasons. They can be worn as underwear most of the time.

What is the ideal weight for a 5 foot 8 inch cyclist?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There may be some slight differences between male and females (which you didn't specify).

I'm not sure why cyclists would be particularly different from other athletes, although I'm sure each sport has a little variation depending on the muscle groups they utilize the most, and weight is certainly a factor in hill climbing.

According to notes, Lance Armstrong is 5' 9 1/2", and has weighed between 163 (in 1999) and 174 lbs (in 1993).

Most body weight formulas calculate about 5 or 6 lbs per inch.
So, if you are 1.5 inches shorter than Lance Armstrong, then you would be about 9 lbs lighter, or somewhere around 154 to 165 lbs.

There is a link to an ideal body weight calculator in the related links section below.

According to that the people's choice "Ideal Weight" is somewhere around 142 lbs for females, and 156 for males. 151 lbs for the "Devine" formula for males, and 141 lbs using the "Devine" formula for women.

This isn't too far off from what we calculated with the Lance Armstrong example, although at least in his early years, Lance Armstrong was actually a bit heavier than predicted.

How long does it take to burn calories on a bike?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's not really about how far, but rather about for how long and how hard you'd have to ride.

On good roads, that'll take more miles than it would on poor roads.

I can go through 800 calories in less than one hour, most would probably do it in 90 minutes or so, some may need two hours or even more.
