Do many Americans believe that the US is committing a breach of public trust by sending jobs to other countries and allowing illegal immigrants to come into the US and become employed?

we are the government. the responsibility for this injustice lies with food co-ops,unions,and every corporate entity known. I'm Canadian and Americans/Canadians alike would like to think "we are the government" but we are just the tax payers! If this statement isn't true then take a look at what both governments are getting away with and how egomaniacal our leaders are. They don't listen to the people and are rude, crude, deceitful and dishonest! It's on the news every single day. Many of our jobs are going to Germany, China, etc. It's called "cheap labor!" Canada has the same problem with sending a lot of our jobs to other countries and also allowing immigrants into the country to work for minimum wage. This is a very difficult problem. One can't blame immigrants for coming into a country that they feel will give them an opportunity to raise their families and have a decent lifestyle. What most of them don't know is life here isn't so great for them. Also, we, in British Columbia, just learned that Koreans that own a mall in Surrey (approx. 40 miles outside of Vancouver, B.C.) have made no bones about getting the whites out of there to make room for Koreans to take over the shops so they can attract more Korean customers. Say what????? This is racism with a big "R" in our own country! There was such an uproar from British Columbians and we have forced the government to look into this and there could well be a law suit! I thought I'd heard everything, but this takes the cake! So, I'm half for some immigrants coming into the country and the other half of me feels some of them don't deserve to be here because they don't follow the laws and rules of our country. They have the right to have their temples, etc., and to have their own groups, but the law is the law and if we went to their country we'd have to follow their laws. The U.S. isn't much different and because there is more population there it is obviously on a larger scale. I'm not a racist, but if this keeps up who knows! I love my country and our culture and because of our government we are losing our culture in leaps and bounds. * Does the majority believe that way, no. First of all the "millions of jobs" is not accurate. The loss of millions of US dollars in the economic sense is somewhat (but not completely) founded. Secondly, the US government does not allow illegal immigrants to enter the country, if that were true they would not be "illegal". One needs to keep in mind, that every person living in the US that is not of Native American heritage came from immigrant roots. The statistics are quite clear that unlawfully present foreign nationals do not create higher crime albeit they do in some states place a larger burden on schools, medical facilities and such. On the other side those who are not "paid under the table" pay taxes and other required withholding, but they cannot benefit from those deductions. If there were enough Americans workers willing to work as migrants, domestics, in the serving industry, etc. and US employers did not hire illegal immigrants the only ones here would be those under refugee or asylee status. It is the US citizens not the government. They people elect the officials, the business owners hire illegal immigrants for lower wages and private citizens (including but not exclusively government officials) hire domestics and pay them menial wages. If one insists on placing "blame" then it is best to place it where really belongs. While the last poster made some good points, I do believe they have made it sound far too simple. The U.S. and Canada are very much alike other than the U.S. being much more populated and a larger country. No one has the right to say the majority of U.S. People don't believe this is so because there has never been a vote on it from the people on what they think and certainly no one asked to give proper statistics. Statistics are gauged on 100 or several thousand people, but not ALL the people. The popularity for President Bush is going down fast and more and more of the American people are dissatisfied with many things the U.S. Government is doing. When the people want to speak and be heard are they? Certainly not! No one said "millions of jobs" (unless the question was changed.) I am sorry to say, but the U.S. and Canada are full of illegal immigrants. People from poor countries take their chances. For example: Mexicans trying to cross the border and this has been going on for years. I am sure many have made it through that Border. These poor people will work in sweat shops and often are threatened with being sent back over the Border. Canada also has illegal immigrants in their country. It just happens and it has always happened. Just as the U.S., Canada also came from immigrant roots and we have many cultures in our countries. We are mainly English and French by cultural standards. My point was that not one culture has a right to go into another country and break the laws and try to take over that culture. I am also speaking of Canada when I say this. I live here and I see it on the news almost every day. We have a higher crime rate (the police and government have verified this) because we are too loose with letting some immigrants into our country without screening them properly. Many immigrants (especially from Asia and mostly women) are led to believe they will have a rich, free and full life in Canada, but many of these young women are forced into prostitution and the police are cracking down on this. Drugs are getting worse in our main city of Vancouver and filtering out to the suburbs. Most gang leaders are Asian or Indo-Canadian (immigrants that sneak through the system.) Many immigrants that come here or even go to the U.S. are good law-abiding people and just want to eke out a living for their families. To place the blame on the people who voted is just ridiculous. Remember Florida and their voting system? They tried to bring the same system into Canada and it was booed out! Remember in the last election blacks were threatened in some States, beaten and even through all that they found their own transportation to have the right to vote who they wanted and it was sure not for who was elected in! Canadians had an election not long ago and it basically came down to the lesser of two evils. Although I'm not implying there should be one, that's why revolutions start! Yes, both countries can blame their governments. When they want your vote they promise you the sun, moon and stars, kiss your babies and kiss your butt and within a month or two of being elected in you wouldn't know it was the same person you had previously witnessed making their speeches. For hundreds of years in both countries high taxes have crippled the people. The dirty 30s was just one fine example and it wasn't just about the economy. It's simply best to do research on your country.

When immigrants arrived, Nativists would throw objects at them. They would throw rocks, or wood, or dirt. If that wasn't bad enough, Nativists would exile immigrants to the dirtiest, most dingy and unhealthy outskirts of the city. The immigrants were forced into the worst jobs.

Why was the Utah war called Buchanan's blunder?

The Utah war was called Buchanan's Blunder for a few reasons.

*First, President Buchanan sent troops to Utah to end a 'rebellion' he had only heard of in rumors and that actually did not exist at all. This was very expensive and a total waste of time and resources.

*Second, He sent a new non-Mormon governor to replace Brigham Young without informing anyone. This new governor knew very little about the territory and the culture of the people there and as such was not respected.

*Third, he sent the troops very late in the season and did not give them enough supplies. As the Mormons were focusing more on the incoming army, they did not tend to their crops - causing a lack of food for both sides.

*Fourth, tensions were so high that many innocent people were killed. Wagon trains traveling through Utah were suspected to be spies and were ransacked and sometimes murdered.

If you have a passport never used. Off of parole and is an ex-felon can passport be used to travel.?

Well, why looking into this question, for personal reasons, I looked on the web. What I find is that it depends on what country you are going to, if you are on parole or probation and so on. So depending on where you want to go. I would look into that particular countries rules and regs. If you are still not sure, I would contact the country consulate in your state or region.

Is a tourist visa or a fiance visa the best way for a legal alien to enter the states to marry a US citizen when they have been engaged and been seeing each other frequently for the past 3 years?

I would say a tourist visa (6 month) is best because a fiance visa limits your time and is not one that can be renewed like a tourist visa. You can renew a tourist visa for 6 months. It does not always get approved but it is something that is possible with the tourist and not with the fiance visa. Now if you plan on getting married as stated in the fiance visa then in that case this would be the one for you.

Adjusting from green card to us citizen?

There is an option to adjust status from conditional status to permanent resident status before the conditional status validity of two years is over. Once you get a green card to become a US citizen you need to have had the green card with continuous physical presence in US for minimum period of 5 years and above the age of 18 years. Using the US immigration Form N-400 the naturalization process can be started end of which you will be given the citizenship certificate as proof that you are a US citizen.

How can you re enter US without a re entry permit after being abroad for over one year?

One option is to apply for a returning resident visa at the local embassy. However it is hard to get approved for one as US law is designed to prevent foreigners from entering, even though they have a green card. I remember reading, that legal residents share the same rights as US citizens except for the right to vote. This is however a truth with modifications. It probably wasn't possible to change the current laws governing green cards, so instead someone invented other laws to make life misery for foreigners.

To get approved for a returning resident visa one has to include evidence to support the following:

1. At the time of departure from the U.S., you were a lawful permanent resident.

2. You left the U.S. with the goal of returning and have maintained this intention.

3. You are returning to the U.S. from a brief visit out of the country and your stay abroad was extended due to circumstances beyond your control.

4. You are eligible for the immigrant visa in all other aspects.

As you can probably figure out requirement no. 2 and 3 are so vague, they can be interpreted entirely subjective. How does one prove it and what are valid reasons? It's entirely up to the person making the decision on whether to issue a returning resident visa or not. The decision can go either way, even though you got your green card fair and square, when you first arrived. Whether this practice or the law will change under the Obama administration I can't say.

To me the really interesting question is how to get into USA after more than 1 year abroad with your green card and passport but without your re-entry permit? One option is to stand before an immigration judge after arriving. This option holds a number of uncertainties. Again it's a subjective decision entirely up to the judge. Judges decisions vary a lot in USA. Some are much more liberal than others. The best way would be to find a way of entering USA without having to stand before a judge.

Yes, you are a legal resident of USA if you have a green card. I believe the next step after green card is citizenship, which is given after 5-7 years of continuous living in the USA.
