What influences did the Zionists have where they relocated?

The Zionists had an number of important influences on the Israeli state structure and culture (since most of them relocated to Israel). Some of those influences include:

1) European Business Culture: Most of the Zionists were from Europe and were used to doing business along European timelines as opposed to Turkish or Arab timelines. This meant longer work hours and generally more productive agricultural techniques.

2) University Establishment: As most of the Zionists were relatively educated European Jews, they founded several institutions of higher learning and lead to the increase in local literacy and development.

3) European Foods: Zionists brought their foods with them. Modern Israel has a melange of typical Levantine foods, like shwarma, felafel, humus and pita, and simple salads, but also has European Jewish foods like kishka, schnitzel, and cholent.

4) Infrastructure Development: The Zionists set to building many roads, improving the Ottoman train tracks and and improving general connections country-wide.

5) Land Acquisition: The Zionists took an active role in buying territory from the Turkish landowners in Mandatory Palestine to create more space for the Jewish immigrants and settlements to develop. This land acquisition directly led to the Jewish National Fund and the modern Israeli land policies.

Why did Ethiopian Jews have to go through a special conversion to be recognized as Jews in Israel?

The conversion ritual required of Ethiopians relates to doubts about their identity.

The "Jewishness" of the Ethiopian Jews has been called into question, although to talk about this today in Israel would be considered very politically incorrect, since Ethiopian Jews have been accepted and integrated into Israeli society. Ultimately, the rabbis decided that they were "real" Jews, but not without controversy. For one, many if not most of the Ethiopian Jews had converted (or perhaps been forced to convert) to Christianity. Power in Ethiopia has been split between Christians and Muslims over much of the last 500 years, and many Jews had to choose sides, while retaining what are often described as "primitive" Jewish traditions. So what remains of the ritual is there ostensibly to cleanse the taint of other religions.

But really, the ritual can most accurately be described as a compromise between a minority of rabbis who don't believe that Ethiopians are "real" Jews, and a majority that has accepted them. The minority - which again is espousing a sort of right-wing view, with the usual issues (and keeping in mind the issue of race, always in the background) - cites modern DNA evidence that conclusively proves that Ethiopian Jews are genetically related to Ethiopians, not Jews, and thus the unlikelihood of the traditional history that identifies Ethiopian Jews as the descendants of the lost tribe of Dan (or alternatively, the offspring of a mating between King Soloman and Queen Sheeba, undocumented in the Bible but an oft-repeated legend in the Ethiopian historical canon).

Despite this controversy, the Ethiopians have status as Jews since 1973 in Israel and almost all 120,000 of them now live there, where they are well-integrated. The ceremony is a last vestige of more draconian requirements from the past (involving ritual circumcisions), and will likely fade into history as about a third of Ethiopian Jews alive today were born in Israel.

Why can't the two countries just share the Gaza Strip?

Ironically, the Gaza Strip is the only territory in the entirety of the former Mandate of Palestine (Israel and the Palestinian Territories) that is not actually contested between the Israeli and Palestinian governments. Israel ceded significant control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority in 1993 and subsequently gave it full control in 2005.

The reason that there have been numerous wars in the Gaza Strip is because the Hamas government that currently rules over the Gaza Strip has a policy that peace with Israel is impossible and continues to lash out against Israel. If the Gaza Strip was more willing to behave peacefully with its neighbors (both Egypt and Israel), there would be fewer conflicts in the Gaza Strip. (Even Palestinians are getting tired of Hamas as can be seen in the parody of the "Thank You Hamas" videos.)

Is the Syrian Civil War a Western and-or Zionist Conspiracy?

No, of course not.

Claim Made by Conspiracy Theorists

Those who make the claim usually center on three distinct elements:

1) History of Imperialism: This holds that there is a drive by Westerners to prevent the realization of a united Arab polity. The argument holds that if Syria is weakened militarily, it will be in a much weaker economic, political, and social position. Additionally, it is argued that Western powers want access to Syria because of its resources.

2) Iranian-American Proxy War: This holds that Iran and the US are going to war in a number of different places by mobilizing different armies to fight for them. The Israel-Hezbollah War in 2006 and the current Syrian Civil War are outgrowths of the proxy war.

3) Israeli Desire to Retain the Golan: Israel is required by UNSC Resolution 242 to return the Golan Heights to Syria in response to a peace treaty between the countries. Netanyahu and Assad were in negotiations in 2011 to resolve this issue before the Syrian Civil War broke out.

Refutation of Claim Made

However, each of these arguments is (1) circumstantial and (2) divorced from the actual events going on in Syria. Concerning Imperialism, while the West continues to interact with the Arab countries in a non-equal manner, such as not recognizing an Arab Common Market and conducting diplomacy with each Arab country as the entire European Union, European nations have not put boots in the ground in Syria, nor have they made significant contributions to any of the parties in the conflict. There are also minimal natural or strategic resources in Syria and most European governments did quite well with Assad for what minimal benefits Syria could provide, further demonstrating why political imperialism was not necessary. Concerning the Iranian-American proxy war, the United States has only supported the Free Syrian Army with words and slogans, not actual funds, so it cannot be said that they are a US proxy. Concerning Israel and the Golan Heights, not even the regime argues that its opponents (who it has characteristically labeled as "Zionist Western Usurper Terrorists") are interested in derailing negotiations with Israel. Israel and the Israeli public actually preferred Assad in power since he was the evil they knew as opposed to the evil that they did not know (any new Syrian government). Additionally, since any other Syrian regime would be more hostile to Israel (either because of the greater anti-Zionist stance of the population in a democracy or the anti-Zionist views of Islamists), Israel has little interest in replacing a "peaceful" anti-Zionist Assad with a probably militant anti-Zionist new Syria.

Actual Causes of the Conflict

The actual case is that the Syrian Civil War is a direct result of conditions within Syria finally coming to the boiling point. The Syrian people historically opposed the Assad dynasty and this culminated in the Hama Massacre in which 10,000-40,000 Syrians were brutally murdered by Hafez Assad. This act of cruelty and barbarity inflamed anti-regime passions but also crushed any hope that they might have for success. Hope for changes in Syria was rekindled by the Arab Spring's successes in Tunisia and Egypt in overthrowing their dictators.

The situation would have remained peaceful, but like Libya, the government decided to use military force to repress the protesters. Unfortunately while the Libyans received military assistance from the West leading to a short and quick war to assert popular authority over a ruthless dictator, the Syrians were not lucky enough to get to get Westerners to help them in securing democracy. This happened for two main reasons: the Syrians took to arms one week after NATO forces had committed to Libya, making them more resistant to committing to fight a new conflict in Syria and Syria lacks the oil and natural gas resources that served as effective motivation to bring stability to Libya. The lack of Western involvement in Syria has led to the escalation of the conflict since neither side has a clear advantage. This has only been exacerbated by Iranian support for the Regime, Saudi support for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and Turkish support for the Free Syrian Army. If anything, it is a Middle Eastern proxy war between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey for control of the Islamic Middle East being waged in Syria.

Do orthodox Jews reject zionism?

This is a complicated issue, as most Orthodox Jews have mixed feelings toward Zionism. Before the founding of Israel almost all of Orthodox Judaism rejected Zionism. As a movement in Europe, it was largely anti-religious. After the founding of Israel many Orthodox groups half-heartedly accepted Zionism as a necessary evil, seeing them as the only force able to prevent a second Holocaust at the hands of the Arabs. However, many Orthodox Jews openly denounce Zionism and even those that don't publicly tend to privately. Nowadays, the majority of Orthodox Jews participate in Israeli politics, voting and running for office. They do so more out of necessity than out of belief in the system.

It is important to note that while the overwhelming majority of Orthodox Jews feel a kinship to their Jewish brethren in Israel, they do not believe it to be a "Jewish State" since it was not formed by the Messiah nor does it espouse Religious Jewish Law.

Did Great Britain borrow money from Israel to help finance World War 1?

No. There was no Israel during World War I.

However, a number of wealthy Britons were Zionists (some desiring to live in Palestine and others who were only sympathetic to those desires). In order to court them and their funding, the British espoused Zionist aims in the Balfour Declaration of 1917. This endorsement of a Jewish homeland allowed the British a clearer line to Zionist money and victory in World War I.

Is religion the main cause of conflict in palestine?

This question is difficult to answer for two reasons. Firstly, there are two conflicts going on in Palestine (the first is the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and the second is the Palestinian Civil War and related violence). Secondly, opinions widely vary as to what the causes of these conflicts are. It is likely that religion is a bigger player in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict than the Palestinian Civil War. A strong argument can be made that either conflict is not based on religion in any substantial way and strong arguments can also be made that religion is the defining aspect of these conflicts. In depends on more on the person than anything else.

Personally, I do not find the "religion" angle terribly appealing in either case. I think the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is a ethnic nationalist conflict and that the Palestinian Civil War is a war fought for political control.

Please see the Related Questions below for more information on both conflicts.

How many Muslims have been killed in the War on Terror and do people really know about Islam or do just they rely on Media USA government and Israel for information on Islam?

Answer 1

In Iraq alone, it is published that 1 million Iraqi were killed during the American war in Iraq. In addition, thousands were killed in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine territories, and other countries. Most of non-Muslim people know little about Islam and they just rely on Media of US, Israel, and Europe. Some don't even know the difference between the two words Islam and Muslims and they the followers of Islam by Islam or Islams and not by Muslims. It is a pity that a US Bishop calls to burn the Quran in a world day celebration and when asked did you read the Quran? he says no.

Answer 2

Factually, Answer 1 is a bit of a mess. The latest estimates are that somewhere around a half-million (500,000) Iraqis have been killed either in the initial invasion, or in the sectarian violence since the war ended (the majority in the later). In addition, approximately 4-5 million Iraqis have become refugees. The numbers in Afghanistan/Pakistan are significantly lower, but still substantial (no reliable numbers have been published for that conflict by any reputable source). The War on Terror does not generally involve specific military operations outside the above areas, though I'm certain that the various Intelligence agencies conduct clandestine operations globally against perceived threats.

Besides the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the War on Terror has to include the conflicts elsewhere specifically concerning terrorism (or, at least, one side's definition). That would include a variety of attacks in India, the UK, Japan, Spain, the Philippines, and several other places, plus much of the ongoing civil war/conflict in Yemen and neighboring areas. No good estimates of the death tolls in Yemen exist, while rough numbers for the death tolls in various explicit terror attacks sits at around 3,000. Much of the death in Yemen, et al is Muslim, while only a small minority of the deaths in Spain, India, et al are Muslim.

As to the second part of the question: unfortunately, as with most topics, the American public almost exclusively uses the major mass media as its source of information. Which means that their opinions of Islam are generally shaped by newscasts, newspapers, and (increasingly) by radio/TV personalities. The latter are particularly poor sources of factual information, as they have no reason to present a balanced viewpoint, nor correct misinformation or mistakes. However, even the former two media sources are no longer considered very good sources of information, as the quality of reporting has significantly degraded in the past three decades.

While the pro-Israel lobby has significant influence and the US has a stanch history of being a solid Israeli backer, it would be a mistake to say that the Israeli government itself has any significant impact (or influence) on the general US public opinion. It has non-trivial impact on Congress, however, as there exists a very strong pro-Israel lobby.

One final note: as an aside, the questioner makes the assumption that the US is battling Muslims. Not all Iraqi or Afghani peoples are Muslim. In fact, a notable minority are NOT. In addition, most of the current crop of terrorists are as much Muslim as Timothy McVeigh was Christian - it is not terribly relevant, since their true motives are political, not religious. While they might dress it up in religious speak, a closer look at them reveals that they're just in it for political ends, and religion is a cloak to fool the masses. The War on Terror is really a political war, not a religious one. And, of course, none of this speaks to the effectiveness or appropriateness of the conflict, which is a completely different topic.

Answer 3ORB calculated 1,220,580 deaths since the 2003 invasion. From the poll margin of error of 2.5% ORB came up with a range of 733,158 to 1,446,063 deaths.Jared M. On Friday, 14 September 2007, ORB (Opinion Research Business), an independent polling agency located in London, published estimates of the total war casualties in Iraq since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. At over 1.2 million deaths (1,220,580), this estimate is the highest number published so far. From the poll margin of error of +/-2.5% ORB calculated a range of 733,158 to 1,446,063 deaths. The ORB estimate was performed by a random survey of 1,720 adults aged 18+, out of which 1,499 responded, in fifteen of the eighteen governorates within Iraq, between August 12 and August 19, 2007. In comparison, the 2006 Lancet survey suggested almost half this number (654,965 deaths) through the end of June 2006. The Lancet authors calculated a range of 392,979 to 942,636 deaths. On 28 January 2008, ORB published an update based on additional work carried out in rural areas of Iraq. Some 600 additional interviews were undertaken September 20 to 24, 2007. As a result of this the death estimate was revised to 1,033,000 with a given range of 946,000 to 1,120,000. See related links below. Answer 4The difficulty and wide range of estimates above indicates the problems in definitions: the ORB survey includes ALL deaths of non-natural causes in Iraq between 2003 and 2007, and is hampered by problems with accuracy due to refugee status. It has also received criticism from peers as to poor methodology leading to less than reliable results. The Lancet study had related, but not identical problems, though it is generally well-accepted by peer review. In both cases, it's hard to categorize who was killed in the War on Terror, who died as a result of direct combat, who was killed by partisan and sectarian infighting, who died due to hardships of being refugees, etc. The truth is never simple, and putting an exact number to the casualties (and cause of those casualties) in the Iraq War is going to be pretty much impossible, especially since the region doesn't conduct frequent accurate census of populations, and the overall fluid movement of people makes identification of casualties difficult. This is doubly true for places like Afghanistan, Yemen and portions of Africa.

A side hint: The war is to implement undeclared political and economical agendas of the invaders in the invaded countries rather than war against terror. Even the sectarian war in Iraq was fueled by the invaders to keep the country away from possible political and economic revival. Otherwise, how do you explain the absence of this sectarian wars before the US invasion of Iraq.

Apart from the Iraqi victims through the claimed war on terror, give a look to the current Iraq political, social, economic status to find that Iraq practically now is partitioned. There are every day victims of violence and opposing fronts. Iraq has neither an established army nor an established police. Iraq lost its leading status in the region regarding social and medical insurance systems. The Iraq oil is almost under control of foreign countries to pay the bill of the war on Iraq. The Iraqi historical museums were destroyed and robbed by foreign gangs. Iraqi one million children died due to sanctions and due to the use of uranium missiles. I wonder how one or a country supports the war against terror while this one or this country is waging terror.

This country was created after the war that finally gave the holy land back to the jewish people?

You are likely looking for the answer "Israel", but based on the phrasing of this question, it is actually a wrong answer.

Israel declared independence and had many interim government institutions on May 14, 1948, which was in the middle of the Jewish-Arab Engagement, and the day before the Arab countries surrounding Israel declared war on that country, beginning what is known as the Arab-Israeli War of 1948-9. By the time the war ended with ceasefires in April 1949, Israel had been a state for nearly a year.

Therefore, only countries created AFTER April of 1949 could be acceptable answers to this question. The country that was created most soon after April of 1949 was the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949. The next country to be independent was Libya, which was released by the British and French Occupying armies on December 24, 1951.

In 1948, Israel was created as the Jewish nation.

Is Ben Bernanke a Zionist?

Yes, ben bernanke is a zionist just like most of the Obama regime..along with bernanke being a zionist you also have rahm emanuel and david axlerod..two other white house members who have the president's ear.

Most of America's political leadership is Zionist: believing that the Jews should have political self-sovereignty and is the patriotic sentiment behind the Establishment of the State of Israel.

Unfortunately, many people use the term "Zionism" to refer to a non-existent cabal of Jews who "control the world". As such a cabal does not actually exist, Ben Bernanke cannot be a part of it.

What was the Zionism Resolution from November 1975?

This question is likely referring to UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 which condemned Zionism as a form of Racism. In December of 1991 it was reversed by UNGA Resolution 4686.

The Resolution 3379 Text is below:

The General Assembly,

Recalling its resolution 1904 (XVIII) of 20 November 1963, proclaiming the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, and in particular its affirmation that "any doctrine of racial differentiation or superiority is scientifically false, morally condemnable, socially unjust and dangerous" and its expression of alarm at "the manifestations of racial discrimination still in evidence in some areas in the world, some of which are imposed by certain Governments by means of legislative, administrative or other measures",

Recalling also that, in its resolution 3151 G (XXVIII) of 14 December 1973, the General Assembly condemned, inter alia, the unholy alliance

between South African racism and zionism,

Taking note of the Declaration of Mexico on the Equality of Women and Their Contribution to Development and Peace 1975, proclaimed by the World Conference of the International Women's Year, held at Mexico City from 19 June to 2 July 1975, which promulgated the principle that "international co-operation and peace require the achievement of national liberation and independence, the elimination of colonialism and neo-colonialism

, foreign occupation, zionism, apartheid

and racial discrimination in all its forms, as well as the recognition of the dignity of peoples and their right to self-determination",

Taking note also of resolution 77 (XII) adopted by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African Unity

at its twelfth ordinary session, held at Kampala from 28 July to 1 August 1975, which considered "that the racist regime in occupied Palestine

and the racist regime in Zimbabwe and South Africa have a common imperialist origin, forming a whole and having the same racist structure and being organically linked in their policy aimed at repression of the dignity and integrity of the human being",

Taking note also of the Political Declaration and Strategy to Strengthen International Peace and Security and to Intensify Solidarity and Mutual Assistance among Non-Aligned Countries, adopted at the Conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Non-Aligned Countries held at Lima from 25 to 30 August 1975, which most severely condemned zionism as a threat to world peace and security and called upon all countries to oppose this racist and imperialist ideology,

Determines that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.

Does Israel belong to asia or europe?

Israel is part of the continent of ASIA, specifically in the region called "the Middle East." "Southwest Asia" is also being slowly adopted as a more politically-correct alternative for the term "Middle East." Israel is very close both to North Africa and south-eastern Europe, but is not part of Africa or Europe. This is because the internationally accepted demarcation of the border between Asia and Africa is the Suez Canal; and the demarcation between Asia and Europe runs through the Urals and the Dardanelles, making Israel an Asian country.

It is important to note that for UN Security Council rotations, Israel is considered part of the "Western Europe and Others Group" as the Arab Nations blocked its entry into the Middle East Group. It also shares a lot of legal and cultural traditions with Europe.

It is also worth noting that like several other Middle Eastern and Caucasus countries, Israel is allowed to participate in the (primarily European) Eurovision song contest. Additionally, Israel plays in the European Football Cup.

What port did Egypt refuse to let Israel use causing the Six Day War?

Answer 1
No, the Six Day war began after Israel discovered that Egypt and Syria were massing forces to strike Israel.

Answer 2

The answer you are looking for is Eilat, but the phrasing of the question makes some historical errors.

Egypt had no power to "let" or "forbid" Israel the use of its territorial ports. However, Egypt cut off international access through the Straits of Tiran, preventing Israel from effectively having Red Sea access. (This was critical since most Israeli petroleum at that point came from Iran and would arrive at Israel via the Red Sea.) The closing off the Straits of Tiran made the Israeli port city of Eilat virtually unusable. Under International Law, this bellicose Egyptian Act gave Israel a legitimate causus belli or reason to declare war.

On April 19, 1775, a day after Paul Reveres famous ride, another epic ride has largely been forgotten.

Move Over, Paul Revere

"Under his spurs, his horse seemed to take wing. Local legend has it that he mad Worcester, a day's ride, in just tow hours, and that his horse dropped dead when he got there. With a new horse, Bissell was off again. Through Connecticut he raced, then to New York on to Philadelphia. Astonishingly, he rode 350 miles in just six days, a record time.

Paul Revere, by contrast, rode only twenty miles. but Reveres effort to "spread the alarm to every Middlesex village and farm" were immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Nobody wrote a poem about Israel Bissell, so he wound up one of history's has-beens."

In 1995. Massachusetts poet Clay Perry finally gave Bissell a poem of his own. He wrote:

Listen my children, to my epistle:

Of the long, long ride of Israel Bissell;

Who outrode Paul for miles and time;

But didn't rate a poet's rhyme

Who won the war in 1973 as per the egyptians?

The Egyptians claim that they won the Arab-Israeli War of 1973.

According to the Egyptians, Israelis suffered defeats early in the war when they were caught off-guard. Also, in the early armistice negotiations, Israelis had to make the first moves of withdrawal from African Egyptian territory. Israelis counter that Egypt lost the Yom Kippur War because they failed to secure their primary objective, the Sinai Peninsula, which remained in Israeli hands after hostilities had ceased.
