Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, famous US poet , wrote a long narrative poem, The "Courtship of Myles Standish" in which John , Priscilla and Myles Standish are the main characters. This poem was once read by all American school children.

Between 1620 and 1630, the Puritans who came to the Massachusetts colony were overall coming based on religious intolerance in Europe. Ironically, the Puritans could be quite intolerant themselves banishing Catholics, and on some occasions, as with Roger Williams, their own ministers as well. Putting the colony in order was very hard work, many who came from affluent backgrounds, weren't used to. After 1640, 11% of the settlers returned back to England, the rest stayed the course, and eventually became profitable.

The first Europeans to arrive in what now is Massachusetts were the Puritans aboard the Mayflower. Although they were headed for Virginia, their ship went off-course and drifted to the north. They finally made landfall on Cape Cod in 1610.

We usually have either roast turkey or ham as the main course, with whatever starches the person likes best (potatoes, rice, etc). There aren't a lot of other traditional food, such as other countries have, because there are just so many different areas of our country and every one has its own traditions.

Other Christmas foods include candy canes and cookies, egg nog, and hot chocolate.

Of course, being America, we also eat traditional foods from other countries, such as figgy pudding, mince pies, fish, and anything else tasty!
