If you are not disabled can you still draw unemployment and Social Security in Michigan?
If you are at least 62 years old, you can receive federal Social Security retirement benefits and Michigan state unemployment compensation if you have earned the SSA's 40 required work credits and qualify for unemployment under Michigan statutes and regulations. The two programs are independent of each other and may be combined to stabilize your income.
There are two important points to remember if you elect to take early retirement. First, your Social Security benefits at age 62 will be approximately 75% of what you would receive if you file at full retirement age (most likely 66); and second, if you find work and your annual earned income exceeds $14,160 (or $1,180 per month during the first year), your Social Security benefits will be temporarily reduced by $1.00 for every $2.00 earned over the limit.
The SSA will offset any overage by withholding benefit checks, beginning in January of the following year, until the total amount is repaid. This may result in several months or more of zero benefits. You have the option of "unretiring" when you return to work in order to prevent this kind of problem, and can then re-retire at any time in the future.

I was wondering if Grand Rapids Michigan was part of the US Territory?
Yes, eventually. The US Territory of Michigan started on 30 Jun 1805 and ended on 26 Jan 1837 when Michigan was admitted to the Union. At first it just concerned Detroit and the surrounding immediate area. Then the surveyors made this really strange area like from one side of the state to the other but in a weird shape mostly in the middle. Then as years went on the surveyors expanded and from year to year the land considered in the US Territory changed. The Federal Northwest surveyors got to the Grand River, specifically Ada and surrounding area (now Grand Rapids) in 1931 and was incorporated into the US Territory of Michigan.
What is the closest turnpike to Michigan?
It depends on you definition of turnpike. If any limited access tollway is a turnpike, then the section of I-75 from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace (The Mackinac Bridge) is located within the state. Also, several briges and tunnels connecting Michigan to Ontario, Canada are tollways. If your definition excludes toll bridges and tunnels, then I-80/I-90 in Indiana (the Indiana Toll Road) is probably the closest - it is less than a mile from the Michigan border in Indiana for a good portion of its length. If you require the road to be named a turnpike, I-90 in Ohio is a few miles from the Michigan border from Indian to Toledo and is formally named the Ohio Turnpike. I do not believe there are turnpikes in Wisconsin, the other state that borders Michigan.
