How is ovulation related to fertilization?
When a woman ovulates, the egg goes down her fallopian tubes. If there is a sperm waiting, it can penetrate the cell membrane and fertilize the egg. The fertilized egg can go through the tubes to implant in her uterus which will make her pregnant. The egg exists as a separate entity between the time when it leaves her ovary and the time when it is at the place where it can become fertilized. It then and goes a week between the time when it is fertilized and it implants. The morning after pill prevents it from implanting.
Why is the fertile period longer than just the day of ovulation in a menstrual cycle?
Mainly because sperm can live for up to a week in the proper environment. Your uterus and fallopian tubes - in the week prior to ovulation, just happens to have the perfect environment for sperm to wait for ovulation! So even tho we only have a narrow window of 12 to 24 hours to conceive, we have the whole week prior where we graciously play hostess to a half a million or so sperm waiting at the gate (so to speak).
I'm not sure I understand...take a pregnancy test and find out!
Hello there.
A womans body temperature rises slightly during ovulation, her period and during conception. Her temperature will go down again.
Personally though I wouldn't rely much on body temperature. As during the evening a body temp does automatically rise. Pregnancy doesn't always increase the body temp.
Good luck.

You should really stop ill advising these people! Please please please visit fertilityfriend.com and better educate yourself, and stop misinforming the public. I am a realist by the way, and feel that people should have the full facts before making their mind up or coming to a decision or point of view. You however seem to have a very narrow view, even ignorant point of view when it comes to this topic. If you did your research on this subject you would know that your answer is wrong. While good tho let the person know not to hang their hopes on being pregnant, it is still best to be honest and give accurate information about the subject, Something that you clearly do not. I feel you have not even researched this subject at all and are just typing away your own thoughts ans ignorant notions. Do us all a favour and visit fertilityfriend.com
I very much agree you just gave the wrong information all around. There is a temp. rise when pregnant. Why don't you talk to a doctor next time you go.
If you have a positive pregnancy test and pain on the right side see a GYN immediately! I worry that you may have an ectopic pregnancy. If the HPT is negative and you have a fever temp over 100.5 see a doctor it is an appendicitis. No fever and having pain and diarrhea can be diverticulosis and you need to see a doctor for medication to relieve the cramping. Good luck Joymaker rn
Do you continue to get ovulation pain after a tubal ligation?
It has been my experience that you do get ovulation pain. A tubal is not the removal of the ovaries it is simple a cauterization.
What gender can you get 2 days after ovulation?
You cannot get pregnant two days after ovulation. During ovulation however, gender is 50/50. You will be able to see which gender your child is after being pregnant for 7 weeks.
What causes dependent edema not associated with menstrual cycles?
The veins through which blood returns from the legs are mostly on the
underside of the legs. Sitting for a prolonged period constricts these veins
and increases the net pressure in them, which is the blood's filtration
pressure less osmotic pressure and tissue turgidity. The excess fluid that is
not returned to the veins is normally returned via the lymph vessels, but
these too are constricted by prolonged sitting. Gravity increases the pooling
in the veins and lymphatics. This can be helped by taking breaks, elevating
and stretching the legs, and placing a cushion on the portion of the chair in
contact with the thighs. Exercise such as cycling can rapidly alleviate the
condition (by using the leg muscles to push out the fluid). If one can't
avoid sitting for a prolonged period, it is best to wear tight socks with
shoes, as they help to counteract the pressure imbalance that causes this.
(Source: Fleur Strand, Physiology (NY: Macmillan, 1978), pp. 51-52, 229-237and personal experience.)
Dependent edema can also be caused by a number of other more serious
conditions, particularly heart failure and high blood pressure. If you go to
a doctor, you should be examined to rule out such things, but I would
recommend that, particularly if you are in generally good health, that you try
simple solutions first before resorting to drugs or surgery. In their concern
to not miss a potentially serious condition, it is my experience that doctors
will often miss simpler, more benign and easily treated conditions which could
be causing the situation.
In fact, last night I was on the computer, with bare feet, for about two
hours, and I started to notice swelling in my ankles. Pulse was 48 bpm (I do
a lot of cardio) and blood pressure was 107 over 60. No shortness of breath,
cyanosis, etc. Rules out high blood pressure and heart failure. Elevated
feet for awhile, then when I sat down again, put a cushion there. Feet are
fine, problem solved.

This means you are ovulating now. The OPK will be positive for 3 days. You can have sex anytime the OPK is positive and this will increase your chances of conceiving.
Ovulation occurs about 14 days after the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). Basically, you have a time frame of 10-17 days after your LMP for ovulation, because some people are not always regular.
Technically, cramping can be a sign of either.
Early in pregnancy, cramping may occur with implantation, but this cramping should go away. If it doesn't a doctor will need to evaluate it.
Cramping can occur with ovulation and also as PMS or during your period.
If you miss your next MP, or are late, you can take a pregnancy test to know if you are pregnant. Until then, if you are trying to get pregnant, you can keep "trying," just in case you haven't conceived yet.
Remember, it can take up to 3 days after intercourse before conception and implantation may occur, as sperm can "live" inside the female body for up to 72 hours before ever reaching an egg. After that time, the sperm will die off if it has not fertilized an egg.
Can ovulation start again after menopause?
Until you have been through 12 complete cycles with no period, yes - you can still ovulate.
A woman's cycle can be induced to start again thru the use of powerful hormones and is done for IVF. It is not recommended for a woman to try to conceive using her own eggs in her 40's due to the high incidence of chromosome birth defects.
Is ovulation still possible with an abnormal period?
Can I ovulate more than once a cycle? Answer: No. You ovulate once a cycle and typically release one egg. But the best way to think of ovulation is as an event that takes place over 24 hours. During that time you can release one or more eggs, which explains, for example, fraternal twins. Here's how it works: Every cycle, about 15 to 20 eggs start to mature in each ovary. Each egg is encased in its own fluid-filled sac, or follicle. A race begins for one of these follicles to become the largest. Ovulation eventually occurs when one ovary releases an egg from the most dominant follicle.
This shouldn't affect your chances of conceiving. Just remember not to do this once you are pregnant.
Had periods 2 weeks ago could you be pregnant even though did ovulation test says ovulating?
Having a period two weeks ago means most likely you were not pregnant at that time. Knowing that you are now ovulating, right on schedule is another strong indication that you are not pregnant.
Is fertility occurs before menstru al period?
Fertility is the ability to become pregnant. A woman is fertile when she is ovulating and for a few days before ovulation. Ovulation occurs in the middle of the cycle. For example, if woman has a 28 day menstrual cycle ovulation occurs at the 14th day of the cycle.
Greenish discharge usually indicates an infection. You should see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Is it too late to start using progesterone cream if you are 10 days past ovulation and spotting?
I am not a doctor, but this happened to me. I started spotting only 7 days past ovulation and when I called my fertility clinic at 10 days past ovulation, they advised me to start progesterone, which led me to believe I still had a chance to be pregnant. I continued to spot for days 10 and 11. However, 12 days past ovulation (two days after starting progesterone) my period came. Although I think it's still possible to be pregnant with spotting and starting progesterone that late, if the spotting is related to your uterus lining breaking down, it is unlikely. I have a history of starting my period early despite having good progesterone levels, but if you do not have this history, it's possible your spotting is implantation spotting.
What does it mean if a ferning test shows ovulation will occur but your BBT is low after ovulation?
It means your body geared up to ovulate but something happened and there wasn't an egg released from the ovary. This can be due to stress, illness, or general infertility. The ferning only shows that there is increased estrogen levels (which leads to higher salination in the saliva which leads to ferning), and estrogen isn't what leads to actual ovulation. The increase in BBT is when there is a hormone shift from estrogen (lower temps) to progesterone (higher temps), which happens when an egg is released. So when the egg isn't actually released (it's usually delayed by a short time leading to a longer than normal cycle) then there isn't a temperature shift, and you didn't actually O.
Can an ovulation test produce a false positive for ovulation if you are already pregnant?
Yes. I am here to tell you it can 100% give you a false positive if you are already pregnant. This is exactly what happened to me when I got pregnant with my 1st baby. Any questions about my experience I would be glad to answer them - email me at raeganmiers@yahoo.com
No you are not pregnant. You will almost always get two blue lines on an ovulation test. The line closest to the arrow is the Surge indicator, when it reaches a darker blue than the other line ( one furthest from the wick) it means you are at your most fertile for the next two days. Good Luck
How do you no you've hit ovulation during your period?
To determine when you ovulate, you need to take your temperature at the same time every morning every day of your life. When you ovulate, your body temperature will dip and then rise and stay higher than your normal body temperature for three days in a row. You need to take your temperature at the same time every morning because your body temperature rises and changes once you get out of bed. You also need to take your temperature every morning for a few months before you will get used to your pattern and be able to identify it. Your body temperature will tell you when you have already ovulated, and will allow you to pinpoint the date, but it will not tell you ahead of time, it will only tell you after it has already happened. To be able to tell in advance when you are going to ovulate, you need to check your vaginal fluid every day. It will be anywhere from dry to sticky or milky while you are not ovulating. When you are going to ovulate, your body will begin to excrete a lot more fluid, and this fluid will be clear and stretchy like snot or egg white. When you begin to excrete this fluid, your body is getting ready to ovulate, and this is your warning. If you are trying to avoid getting pregnant, you must abstain, and if you are trying to get pregnant, this is your chance. The clear fluid is a sign that you are fertile. It protects the sperm and allows it to survive until the egg arrives. http://www.ovusoft.com/library/primer002.asp
