How do you do paper weaving?

What you will need:

  • paper
  • a glue stick
  • a piece of cardboard
  • scissors

Directions:

  1. Using scissors, cut thin strips of paper.
  2. Take piece of cardboard and lay strips of paper beside each other horizontally. Glue them on the cardboard.
  3. Cut more strips and weave over and under from the top to bottom. When done, take another piece of paper and weave. Instead of over and under, weave under and over. Alternate this pattern over and under and under and over until done. Glue all strips down.

How much water do you use to paper mache?

1 - Flour and water glue:

To make a flour and water glue follow these instructions:

Boil 5 cups of water in a saucepan.

In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup of sieved flour with a cup of cold water. Mix to a smooth consistency (a bit like making custard). When completely free of lumps, add the mixture to the water in the saucepan. Gently boil, stirring constantly for two or three minutes until the mixture thickens.

Allow to cool before using.

This will make a runny glue. If you prefer a very thick glue (or if you are in a hurry for it to dry) use this recipe instead:

Thick flour and water glue:

Use 1 whole cup of flour to three cups of water. Make using the same method as above.

Is there a paper similar to origami paper?

Typically, origami paper is white on one side with a colour or pattern on the other side. It's often very thin, but also very strong (to avoid ripping while it's being folded). It will also usually be pre-cut in a square.

None of these traits are absolute rules.

How do you cut paper?

This site gives you instructions on various types of paper cutters, here is an excerpt and the site:

Guillotine paper cutters are extremely dangerous and everyone should be particularly careful when using when using this type of cutter. In 1999 the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) published a booklet specifically discussing guillotine paper cutter safety and created the following directives:

# Guards must be provided to prevent the operator's fingers from contacting the knife or clamp from either the front or rear of the machine. Only one person should be allowed to operate the machine at the one time and where long material is being cut and cannot be adequately supported by the worktable, additional supports should be provided. # A hand-operated guillotine should be made inoperative when not in use either by removal of the handle or by the use of a locking or similar device. # The shear edges of the blades should be maintained in good condition and blade clearance must be adjusted in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation appropriate to the thickness of the material being cut. # Waste scrap metal provides a hazard for the hands and protective gloves should be worn when the metal is handled. A container should be provided for waste material from the guillotine. * http://officeequipmentblog.factory-express.com/how-to-use-your-paper-cutter-safely/

How do you make a paper army knife?

Take a sheet of lettersize paper and start to fold it in half lengthwise about three times.

Stick the tape on both the endsand in the middle.

Take another sheet of paper and fold the same way as the first in Step 1 and then follow step 2.

Take the folded sheet of paper in step 1 and fold it again half widthwise. This should be the barrel of your papergun.

Next, take the folded sheet of paper in step 2 and fold a 90-degree angle at one end to form a U-shape. The middle section should measure 4 inches across.

Get a stapler and staple to secure the 90 degree angle.

Fold the paper in half so that both 90-degree angle folds meet together and are aligned. If steps 5 to 7 are done correctly, the paper should have an L shape.

Take a piece of paper from step 4 and start sliding it around the 90 degree folds and into the pockets that have been made in them..

Now pull the barrel back and then slide it forward to the gun.

If you followed exactly, then you should now have a nice paper gun ready.

Happy to help you.

What is the height of a normal piece of paper folded in half fifty times?

Normal paper is referred to as "16-weight" which is .0032 inches thick. To figure out how thick it would be after fifty folds, you have to know how many layers there would be and multiply that number times .0032

After 1 fold you would have 2 layers, after 2 folds, 4, after 3 folds, 8 etc. In other words you would end up with 2 raised to the 50th power folds. That's 2 times itself 50 times. That's a big number. In fact it comes to a whopping 1125899906842627 layers!!!

Multiply that times .0032 and you find out that the paper would now be 3602879701896.397 inches thick!! Mind you that's not counting the air trapped between layers.

[Interesting to know, though, is that it has been proven that no matter how big a sheet of paper is (length times width) you can only fold it up to 7 times, unless you use a sheet that's the size of a ware house and have five hours and a C.A.T Roller to flatten the paper, in which case you can get up to 11. But under human strength can you only get it to 7, which would make the paper 0032 x 2^7 or 0.4096 inches thick. Quite a difference.]

P.S. The world record is 12 times

wjs1632

Or you could try the correct answer. No matter how many times you fold it, a standard sheet of paper is always 11" tall.

AdditionJust for the record in the UK and probably across Europe the standard size of paper closest to "letter" in the US is called A4 (about 11.7" high). We used to have a size called foolscap (pronounced fullscap) which was even higher but hasn't been seen in offices for a good while.

Correction

A piece paper cannot be folded in half more than 7 times. Its a trick question?

shut up

Complete correction

Britney Gallivan has solved the Paper Folding Problem. she folded a sheet of gold foil 12 times, breaking the record. The exact limit for single direction folding case was derived, based on the accumulative limiting effects induced by every fold in the folding process. Here is Britney's formula : L =((π.t)/6).(2n+4)(2n-1) L is the minimum possible length of the material, t is material thickness, and n is the number of folds possible in one direction. L and t need to be expressed using the same units. By using this formula you can calculate how many times you can fold whatever you want. PS: If you fold a paper of 0,1mm, 40times the thickness will be the distance between the earth and the moon. So do not even try it :)

How much does the paper clip cost?

Well, that is going to depend on a lot of things, like what kind of paper clip, how large it is, etc. But for an example, we'll go with a price I just found on Amazon for 1000 paperclips for $7.63.

At that price, they cost less and one cent each ($0.00763), so if you could really sell single paper clips (which no one really does), then you could make a small profit by selling them for one cent each.

This same brand and size of paper clip is even cheaper if you buy 2,000 or 5,000 at a time. For instance, if you bought the 50 box option (100/box) instead of the 10 box option, it is $15.99, which works out to 0.003198 per paper clip.

How much does photo-paper cost?

Somewhere around $1.00 per 8.5x11 sheet. The lesser quality costs less, obviously.

If you're looking for 4"x6" you can get those for about $0.30 each (cheaper if you buy more or lower quality)
