Andy then goes South. Police arrive at the prison to arrest the Warden-----but.... he's a coward and kills himself. His top guards are arrested.

Alcatraz, which was a Federal Prison, is located on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay in California. It is currently a museum, and boats take visitors out daily to tour the grounds.
That is one of life's mysteries. All we do know is that Morris, a career criminal, escaped from Alcatraz prison in 1962. Such an escape was dangerous, and also rarely successful; but in Morris's case, he was never seen again, nor was his body recovered.
