Charlie, contrary to popular belief, used a white Runyon Model 22 mouthpiece, with a 4 facing. His reed choice, however, is more obscure. He would use any kind of Rico reeds he could get his hands on, including Tenor reeds on Alto Saxophone. Getting the same equipment as him won't get you anywhere near his sound as much as years of practice and listening to his recordings a lot will, but if his setup fits you, then it'll help.

2. Pastic Reeds. You can buy them online. They make you much louder, but produce a harsh sound. I would recommend it for Marching Band. They are also EXTREMELY durable.

Not junk. They're a good student sax, but vary depending on their age. the Aristocrat line was introduced by Buescher in the 1930's as a professional instrument. By the time Selmer bought Buescher in 1963, designs had advanced and the 'crats were considered intermediate instruments. Selmer continued to use the Buescher tooling for some time but hasn't for some decades. More recent instruments are made in Taiwan, and I don't know whether they have anything in common with the old 'crats, but they are still considered good student saxes.
