From crack of morning, Amish youths do chores before breakfast, like bring in wood and fill hot wood stoves, stumbling in dark feeding livestock and milking cows, to preparing the first meal of the day.
Then the boys go out and plow fields with 4 to 6-horse teams, handle wood cutting equipment without any safety equipment, to hamming away on building several stories up without a harness.

I see two advantages. You have your life style spelled out for you. No stress about what is right and wrong or what is proper or improper. Second advantage is the close community and family support.
Disadvantage, it's a hard way of life and difficult for anyone who is not born into it.
