Why have eating disorders become prevalent?
Eating disorders have become so prevalent over the years because of how the ideals of society have changed and evolved. Many "role models" today are celebrities, who try to stay fit and thin. Also, models and magazines portray thinner people as being pretty. These ideals of "thin is good" cause many people, especially young women, to strive to be thinner. Often this leads to extreme dieting and eating disorders. Teasing and bullying, which is very common, can also lead to low self-esteem and depression, which are known causes of many eating disorders, too.

The exact cause for Rheumatoid arthritis is not yet known, What is known is that it is an autoimmune disease that women are three times more likely to contract it then men and that there often seems to be a genetic factor involved. Until recently diet has not been credited with playing a part in this disease, however there seems to be a growing school of thought that eating habits and eating or not eating certain foods may have a bearing on the this disease.
Why do people with anorexia have brittle skin?

More likely than not, yes. Your body needs water far more than it needs food, though it still needs both to survive and be healthy. Drinking in the sense of alcohol - probably not because most forms of alcohol are high in calories. Most anorexics will stick with water. Some might have diet sodas and such, others might have a flavored or carbonated water. Almost all will drink something that is low-cal with little to no sugars in it, though.

bulimia < βου+λιμ(ος)+ία ( hyperphagia < 'υπερ+φαγ(ειν)+ία ( anergia < αν+έργ(ον)+ία ( dysforia/euphoria < δυσ/ευ+φορ (<φέρ-ειν)+ία (<δύσφορος/εύφορος=dysforic/euphoric) anhedonia < αν+ηδον(ή)+ία ( insomnia < (Latin) in+somn(us)+ia (< insomnus) = agrypnia When the ending letter of the root word is the Greek ξ = ks/cs = x (like rex), then you see the "suffix" -xia. Bulimics differ from anorexia in that bulimics binge and purge?
No
Some anorexics do binge and purge, but only tiny amounts and more consistently than bulimics.
There are two main differences between anorexics and bulimics -
Anorexics lose a significant amount of weight, and usually have an extremely low and unhealthy BMI. This disorder is characterised by excessive weight loss and a fear of putting on weight and getting fat. They are proud of their diets and how controlled they are regarding food.
Bulimics on the other hand are not necessarily skinny; some are quite overweight, and others are in the normal weight range. They are ashamed by their purging activities and feel like their eating is uncontrollable.
Both are equally dangerous disorders causing serious medical and psychological problems, and need to be treated by a physician or psychologist or psychiatrist

How many people go on a diet each year?
High! It's a great thing to be conscious of what you eat and keep a good weight on oneself, but another when fad diets are killing our population off. Kids are becoming Anorexic and Bulimic thinking this is the way to go, and diet pill companies are raking in the big bucks with "quick fix" diet pills. There is only one healthy way to maintain a good weight and that's to be aware of what you are eating, drink 8 glasses of water a day and exercise! Many people detest exercising and find it time consuming, but if you can go biking with your family (a lot of fun) or with a friend and then stop off at Star Bucks or some place you enjoy being (as a reward) then it's well worth it. There is swimming, jogging, fast walking and exercise equipment. If you know in your heart you aren't going to keep going to the gym at least 3 times a week then don't sign up! Get up, get moving! It's always easier doing your exercises with a friend. In these modern times not only some kids, but some adults are either couch potatoes or sitting behind the computer too much. It's OK to do this to some degree, but make a point of getting up and get going! I walk my dogs 2 miles per day down at the river and love it! I either go with my husband or with a friend and sometimes I just want to be alone with my dogs and enjoy nature. I also work-out at home because my schedule is tight. I watch my diet all week long, but then "pig out" one day on the weekend as reward to myself. That means going out to dinner with friends or going to a pub. I don't worry about those calories and the following week I may go out fast walking to burn off the additional calories. Diet companies make billions off of not only gullible adults, but destroying the lives of many kids out there. There are online clubs that help other teenagers to either become Anorexic or Bulimic or to continue with this method. Anorexic people are on a downward spiral and it can lead to death! The kids that usually feel they look fat are actually seeing themselves this way and it can be genetic or that they don't feel they have control in their lives. It's not uncommon to hear of a young woman becoming Anorexic after her parents divorce or there is some trauma in her life. Bulimic young women are usually a good weight and like to maintain their weight, but they want to "pig out" so they do, then purge (vomit) soon after. They think they have the answer to an otherwise distasteful thought of gaining weight, but what they are doing is teaching their stomach (a muscle of the body) to become accustom to purging and one day it won't know how to stop! Then they are in trouble! On and off dieting is connected to all sorts of diseases and especially heart disease. The youth of today may not care about all of what I said, but, one day, it will catch up to them and then they wished they had to listen to all the warnings out there. Magazines, TV, push kids to think they should look a certain way and that's just plain stupid. People such as the Britney Spears of this world (who should be good role models) get lypo suction, plastic surgery (on the tummy area) butt lifts, and in some cases actors will get breast implants and certainly face lifts. Who wants to look robotic and the same as everyone else! Humans come in all shapes and sizes. If more people put 1/4 of the effort into who they are inside and made an effort to help those less fortunate then they wouldn't be so fascinated with dieting to the point of ruining their health. We should all practice good health, but it's not a secret ... THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES AND YOU GOT TO DO IT THE GOOD OLD FASHION WAY!
In three days, no. You have to be doing it awhile to be anorexic, at least a few months. Not that I'm saying you should, don't. It sucks."I'd say if you were not eating for the sake of losing weight you might be on your WAY to having one." As the person at the bottom said.
AnswerNo doubt there is SOMETHING wrong. Perhaps it would be good for you to seek professional help if for no other reason to find out the cause of your aversion to food.

What can a health promoter do to emphatise the anorexia nervosa to the community?
A person who is promoting health and healthy lifestyles / diets should inform people about the dangers of eating disorders. They should encourage people to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle that includes limited alcohol, lower-fat meats, more organic produce, and plenty of exercise, along with promoting healthy body image ideals.
It would be most difficult to use the medical model to explain why anorexia?
It is difficult to "explain" why anorexia happens in medical terms because the condition is very much confined to a mental state (with physical manifestaions), and can very greatly per individual.
How pretend to drink if you dont want to?
You could have a non-alcoholic beverage while everyone else is drinking. No one has to know exactly what is in your glass. Some water can easily pass as alcohol, or juice as alcohol, too. Also, no one should force you to do something (especially something like drinking) if you do not want to.

If you are recovering from being anorexic what foods should you get in?
You should focus on eating healthy foods in good portions. This includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins (like fish and no-fat meats), and low-fat dairy. It is important to recover to a healthy weight by eating good foods, and not a weight gain off of pure fat from junk foods.
