Why is the ice melting in Antarctica?
Climate change would be my educated guess. The rays that hit the Earth used to be able to get out of the atmosphere. Now with all the air pollution the heat rays are being locked under the atmosphere, basically where us humans are located. In result the earth is warming up. Patagonia, Canada and Greenland are not the only places suffering. For example the Himalayas glaciers are melting which is a huge problem for the people on the banks who use that water to bathe and to drink. I know this wasn't part of your question, but if we don't be careful, sea levels will rise massively which could result in flooding coastlines. Think about the Netherlands! they are BELOW sea level.

How big is antarctica compared to UK?
The land area of the United Kingdom, which includes Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and a number of smaller islands, is 242,495 square kilometers, or 93,628 square miles. The land area of Antarctica is 14,000,000 square kilometers, or 5,400,000 square miles. Thus, 14,000,000 divided by 242,495 equals 57.73, meaning that Antarctica is over 57 times larger in terms of land area than the UK.
What is the cause for temperature increase in Antarctica?
Global warming is warming the atmosphere all around the world.
Why are Antarctica ice caps melting?
Global warming.
The warming oceans are actually melting the feet of the glaciers where they move down onto the ocean floor. This creates ice shelves resting on the top of the water. These shelves then break off to form icebergs, sometimes as big as the island of Manhattan.
They aren't melting. In fact, the extent of the sea ice there in the last two years has grown to levels not seen in 35 years.

Just another example of global warming not living up to alarmists expectations.
Is Africa north of Antarctica?
I really don't think "latitude" is the coordinate you want, but I'll answer as if it is.
-- The southernmost point of the [48 contiguous] US is Ballast Key in Florida, at 24.52° North latitude.
-- The northernmost point of Africa is near Bizerte in Tunisia, at 37.33° North latitude.
-- So the [48 contiguous] US are not separated at all from Africa in latitude. In fact,
they overlap by about 12.8 degrees of latitude ... a little over 880 miles !
-- Hawaii, at 18.93° - 22.24° North latitude, is completely within the latitude range of Africa.
-- The southernmost point of Alaska, at the southern tip of Dall Island, is 54.66° North latitude ...
17.33° (about 1,200 miles) farther from the equator than the northernmost point in Africa.
You can find Antarctica between 60 degrees S and 90 degrees S.
What is the strongest wind at Mawson station in Antarctica?
Yes.
Antarctic winds are katabatic, and fall from the polar plateau to sea level, pulled by gravity and cold air seeking its low level. Antarctica is the highest continent -- and the windiest content.
There is no continent in the Arctic to produce such winds.
What is the annual precipitation on Antarctica?
Generally, in Antarctica, it's too cold to rain. Precipitation in the Antarctic Peninsula may fall as rain, but the amounts are nominal. Other precipitation on the continent may fall as snow or ice crystals. Average humidity on the continent is about five percent.
What is the closest country to the Antarctic South Pole?
You may be thinking of Ushuaia, Chile, located at 54° 48′ 0″ S, 68° 18′ 0″ W.
Why doesn't the sun rise in winter in antarctic?
Antarctica covers 10% of the earth's surface, and the period of no sunrise/ sunset varies depending on where you are on the continent.
Everywhere south of the Antarctic Circle -- As of 22 January 2015, it runs 66°33'45.6" south of the Equator -- there is at least one 24-hour period with no sunrise/ sunset.
At the South Pole -- 90° S -- the sun rises and sets once per year giving that geography six months of no sunset and six months of no sunrise..
What continent is mostly covered by ice and now?
For non polar zones: Glacier Fedchenko in Tajikistan, Asia.
Is antarctica in the north pole or north of the equator?
Everywhere in Chile is south of the equator.
How could tropical plants have grown in Antarctica?
During the Cretaceous Period, Antarctica was covered with forests and was for a period of time, tropical. The continent gradually drifted southward to its present position over the south polar region.
What longitudes is Antarctica?
All lines of longitude on earth converge at 90 degrees S, which is on the continent.
What percentage of earth's ice is in Antarctica?
75%
The biggest split in the location of the Earth's water is between fresh water and salt water (about 97%). The 70% of 3% of freshwater is mostly in ice and glaciers, of the remaining 30% of the 3% is in ground water and only 0.3% of the 3% is in lakes and streams.
There are some differences in the amount of water in the Antarctic
What parallel goes through Antarctica?
The Antarctic Treaty defines the Antarctic as all land south of 60 degrees South Latitude. Within a few degrees of 60 degrees south, you will find a degree of latitude that crosses part of the Continent.
For example, the Antarctic Circle 66° 33′ 39″ crosses several edges of the continent.
What is a symbiotic relationship in Antarctica that is mutualism?
An example of mutualism in the tundra is when the caribou eats shurbs and they spread it around through feces
Answer: Lichen (any plant consisting of fungus) exist in cohabitation with blue/green Algae, both benefit from one another, this is called "Mutualism", the algae provides organic nutrients and the fungus provides minerals for the growth, from this union they become beneficial to all other organisms and growth appears.

What if all the ice on Greenland and Antarctica melted?
This is only a hypothetical, since it is generally agreed by even the most pessimistic scientists that this ice cap will not melt in our lifetimes. If it did happen, then sea levels would rise by several meters and we would have to abandon many of our coastal cities and productive coastal farmland. A more realistic possibility is that the Greenland ice caps would melt, raising sea levels by a lesser amount.
How many meters deep is the Lambert Glacier?
According to its Wikipedia entry:
"Lambert Glacier is a major glacier in East Antarctica. At about 60 miles wide, over 250 miles long, and about 2,500 m deep, it holds the Guinness world record for the world's largest glacier."
Is the South Pole the same as antarctica?
In relation to the question asked, (south pole = antarctic) the answer is the arctic. The north pole is located in the Arctic region, specifically the Arctic Ocean. When people use the term "The North Pole", they may mean Magnetic North or they may mean the Geographic North Pole/Terrestial North Pole. The latter two terms are the point in the northern hemisphere where the earth's axis meets the earth's surface. There is no land mass at the North Pole. It is currently covered by ice caps, which shift. Therefore there is no permanent marker of the North Pole.
What are the type of climate in Antarctica?
Antarctica is a polar desert continent that covers 10% of the earth's surface. It is the highest, driest, windiest, coldest, darkest and iciest continent on earth. Ninety-eight percent of the continent is covered with an ice sheet that contains about 90% of earth's ice and about 70% of earth's fresh water.
