The maximum airspeed of a helicopter is limited by the speed of the rotor blade. He became known as Geronimo after his escape from US Army troops as he jumped from Medicine Bluff into Cache Creek on the US Army reservation at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The meaning of the word is unclear and may have been simply an Apache battle or war cry of some type. It is also possible that the troops who witnessed the jump from what is now known as Geronimo's Leap at the peak of the bluff misheard Goyathlay. For those interested Goyathlay's grave is on the Ft.
