What did Paul Keating recently suggest?

As at the time of asking in June 2007, Keating had been strongly critical of the Australian Labor Party's position on handling the Industrial Relations policies of the Howard Government. This is significant because Keating is a former Labor Prime Minister and well known for his cutting remarks.
On this occasion he was canning the Rudd Opposition strategists as being too conservative, consensus driven saying they '...won't get out of bed in the morning unless they've had a focus group report telling them which side to get out.'
He proposed that the safety net for low income workers be reinstated while higher income mining workers remained on the Howard Government's Australian Workplace Agreement's or AWA's.
If this is out of date when you read this don't worry! Keating has a track record of coming out with classic statements and a web search of Keating insults gives interesting results.

How did Australia change because of John Howard?

It didn't, aside from maybe becoming a little more xenophobic because of his policy and it now has a goods and services tax.

Another view:

Australia became a rich and wealthy nation under John Howard. He was Australia's second-longest-serving PM and, during that time, he built Australia up into a rich economy, settling it up to handle the worldwide recession most adequately. He has not really been acknowledged for his incredible foresight, and the way he put aside reserves from the budget to build up Australia's colony. The Rudd/Gillard government was the government which followed, and actually experienced the recession, and this Labor government managed to spend every last cent of the surplus.

John Howard was not appreciated for his firm policies against illegal immigration, but his policies and actions certainly reduced the number of illegal asylum seekers.

Who did John Howard beat to become pm?

Where in Australia can you but 'princess house' merchandise?

My daughters were party plan sales consultants for Princess House a few years ago when the company went bust here. Later on while working in a gift store one of our sales agents came in with a bunch of Princess House stuff among the things he was selling (when I questioned him about it he said it was some stuff that his company had purchased along the way - he had not even heard of Princess House.) I now search eBay for pieces that need replacing and have attempted to contact their American base but to no avail as yet. Jenny Atkins
