There is a kitchen utensil called a Wisk. It has multiple steel wires forming a sort of balloon shape attached to a handle (wood or metal). It is used to incorporate air into a batter or liquid while mixing it at the same time. One typical use is to whip heavy cream into peaks. How long to bake whole chicken per pound at 200 degrees?

Baking temperatures are usually 350° or 400°. A whole chicken will take the better part of one hour at 400°. Baking at 200° will not do much except get the chicken warm. The only way to tell if a chicken is cooked properly is to use a meat thermometer--seeing if the juices run clear is not a reliable indicator of doneness. To test the internal temperature of a whole chicken, insert the thermometer into the thigh, taking care not to touch the bone. Chicken should reach 165 degrees F. Remember that the meat will continue to cook once it's removed from the heat source, so you may pull it out of the oven or off the grill a few degrees below the target temperature--just keep the thermometer in place and check to be sure the temperature climbs to a safe heat.

What qualifications are needed to be a butcher?

Butchers work in a variety of different settings and their main purpose is to provide well-cut and fresh meat to their customers. Most butchers work in grocery stores, however, some own their own butcher shops and actually make a fantastic living cutting and selling good quality meats. Many people rely on butchers more than they even know when they are shopping around the local food market. By properly butchering the meat, you will allow your customers to savor the sheer delight that the plethora of different cuts have to offer. To become a butcher, you should first have a tolerance for blood and you should have a steady hand, since you will be working with knives and other sharp instruments.

Though there are certain courses available that one can attend to become a butcher or learn the trade, many butchers actually learn on the job. Scour your local newspaper for grocery store positions that are hiring entry-level butchers. You will probably just need a high school diploma or GED. In the trade of butchering, you will have to work your way to the top and start out at the bottom. If you are learning from an experienced butcher, he or she will let you know how to properly cut meat and what temperatures are right for certain cuts. More experienced butchers can get better jobs or they may even decide to open their own meat shop.

Butchers who are new to the job and have under four years experience can expect to earn about $25,000 annually. More experienced butchers, those who have more than 6 years experience, can earn about $35,000 a year. This salary range also depends on where you work and which state you live in. You may be required to attend regular safety seminars to keep you abreast of any food sanitation measures that you can use when cutting and preparing meat.

If you love using your hands when working and you enjoy cooking and preparing foods, you may enjoy being a butcher. Because butchers work in areas that have a lot of blood condensation on the floors, they tend to be more at risk for injuries on the job. So whether you decide to work for a grocery store or open your own butcher shop, this career field may be perfect for you.

Can You freeze apple?

Apple, slices

Syrup pack is preferred for apples to be used for fruit

cocktail or uncooked dessert. Apples packed in sugar or

frozen unsweetened are good for pie making. For better

quality, slice apples into an ascorbic acid solution to

prevent darkening.

Select full-flavored apples that are crisp and firm, not

mealy in texture. Wash, peel and core. Slice medium apples

into twelfths, large ones into sixteenths, and drop

immediately into ascorbic acid/citric acid mixture.

Pack in one of the following ways:

Syrup pack

Use 50 percent syrup (1 cup sugar to 1 cup water). For a

better quality frozen product, add 1/2 teaspoon ascorbic

acid to each quart of syrup. Slice apples directly into

cold syrup in a container, starting with 1/2 cup syrup to a

pint container. Press fruit down in containers and add

enough syrup to cover. Seal, label and freeze.

Sugar pack

Over each quart (1 1/4 pounds) of apple slices sprinkle

evenly 1/2 cup sugar and stir. Pack apples into containers

and press fruit down, leaving headspace. Seal, label and

freeze.

Unsweetened pack

Follow directions for sugar pack, omitting sugar.
