Movement is important in drama because, like in real life, movement is just as important as words, when it comes to communication- in fact, 95% of communication is non-verbal. It is also important because it stays the same across all different languages and cultures, and makes a performance much more interesting and informative. Movement can be described as the act or an instance of moving; a change in place or position. In theatre, it becomes especially essential, because when half of your audience are sitting quite far away from you, they find it difficult to know what you are saying from your speech alone, so you have to communicate using body language.

There's a bunch. Mostly everyone has either seen, heard of, or heard the familiar music of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. There's also Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Giselle...I'd probably go with Nutcracker or Swan Lake, though.

Peter I. Tschaikovsky composed "The Nutcracker" as both a ballet and as an orchestral suite.



There are no spoken words in ballets, but the music for The Nutcracker was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The original choreography for the ballet was done by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.

Shortly before he began The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky heard the newly-invented celesta. He incorporated it in his orchestra for the ballet, most notably in the Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy, and became the first composer to score for the instrument.

The purpose of ballet is to showcase the art of dance, while remaining light, graceful, strong and being technically advanced. The more modern purposes of ballet are to exercise and ballet is very enjoyable so many people do it for fun. Many people think that ballet is simply dancing around in silly tutus and swaying your arms, but it is actually a beautiful display of strength and agility, as well as grace.

Male ballet dancers wear a specifically designed undergarment called a "dance belt" that has a strong pouch to support their genitals, prevent injury, and create an non-detailed bulge in front, with a thong rear to minimize show-through lines.

Unless you are French, or are very very exceptional at ballet, it is difficult to audition for this school. The French are very select with how many foreigners take part in their system. Winning a major competition will help. It has to be a world wide comp though.

The term "danseur" is a French term meaning "male ballet dancer." Just as "danseuse" is the female equivalent. And the term "ballerina" actually is an Italian phrase for the PRINCIPAL female ballet dancer. But it has since been used by now to label ANY female taking ballet. Still, just as "ballerina" is a female ballet dancer--"ballerino" is the male equivalent in Italian.

First performed by the Imperial Russian Ballet at the Maryinski Theatre, St. Petersburg, in December, 1892, The Nutcracker ballet was a collaborative effort. Master choreographer Maruis Petipa (1819-1910), a Frenchman, set the staging; Lev Ivanov (1834-1901) was the actual choreographer; and composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) wrote the score to follow Petipa's staging. The Ballet's story originates from a rather complex short story written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffman (1776-1822) called Der Nussknacker und Mausekonig (The Nutcracker and the Mouse King) and from a then popular French version of Hoffman's story written in 1845 by Alexander Dumas, père (1802-1870) titled Casse Noisette (The Nutcracker). Although not performed in this country until the 1940s, it has become a holiday favorite. The Ballet is set in late 18th century Nuremberg, Germany at the home of the wealthy Dr. and Frau Stahlbaum. The Ballet is a nostalgic story of a family Christmas celebration and a little girl's fanciful dream of adventure, a Prince, and a far away Kingdom of Sweets!

It probably depends on a females male partner e.g. If the man is 6ft then she would have to be smaller-under 6ft. It is easier for the girl to be small so that she can be lifted by the man with ease.

Basic steps and moves is about as basic as it gets. Try stepping in a square to a song with a steady beat to start, not too fast, though. When you are ready to move on, create your own step pattern, maybe to a faster song. After this, try going back to the steady song and add some moves with your arms and upper body. When you have mastered all this, try the fast song to to the routine you have created. If you would rather try a routine already created by another person, go ahead, but master it in the ways just explained.
