Does pointe hurt?

this is a really question to answer. yes, a lot of dancers do get a lot of pain in their feet when they do pointe work, and there are lots of photos of horrible looking feet belonging to ex dancers, but... this does not have to be the case!

most issues with pain are due to badly fitting shoes or weak feet, and it often happens when both are happening together! if you take the time to strengthen your feet well before you starting en pointe, and you get a shoe that fits your foot very well, you should have very little pain in the feet.

as dancers begin to do more and more hours en pointe, the chances of discomfort in the feet obviously increases but you, should be able to do several hours a week very comfortably. when you first start you will only do a few minutes at the end of each class.

if you are strong before starting pointe work, you avoid taking strain through the growth plates. most dancers have no issues at all with the growth of their feet, and the problems that occur (like stress fractures or ligament sprains) are usually because of bad techneique, or doing a step that is too hard for the dancer to control.

many dancers have long careers with no problems with their feet. so... the problem is not in doing the pointe work, it is how you do it!

How has ballet effected culture?

In the 1800's through the early 1900's ballet has been a legacy. Going to famous ballets was like going to the movie theater today except much more luxurious. The beautiful music and hardworking, mesmorizing dancers could lull anyone into a dreamy trance. This was the "thing" at that age. It was like facebook. Everyone dreamed of going to ballets and seeing the perfomers. Unfortuneately our cutlure has now turned to dirty rap videos and pop sensations while ballet has faded. In particular studios (mine for example) we still carry this legacy because we're aware of the decline in the popularity of classical ballet. Our motive is to inspire and reteach the public of how Balanchine, Cecchetti, and so many other amazingly famous choreographers lulled our culture in to the era of elegant, classical ballet.

How long does it take to go en pointe?

Age-wise, if you've been dancing since you were small, you can go en pointe when you are around 11 after at least 3-4 years of training. If you are older and take at least 2 classes a weak and develop very strong technique, you can go en pointe in as little as 2 years. Is it ever too late to learn cheerleading?

no way im learning and im actually pretty good. its just as long as you enjoy it!!!

__________________________________________________

actually, it could be. it just depends. if you're just learning for the first time and you're like .. 15, you're going to be a little less educated (obviously) but what it depends on is if you've never cheered before then you try out for the freshman squad in highschool... chances are you're not going to make it. because you get certain points for like- how high your toe touches are and how well you tumble. and if you cant throw a good backhandspring, don't count on being on JV. at least that's how it is at our hs. now if you just joined a competitive cheer squad, for your town, that's different. although, you'd probably be very behind compared to the other cheerleaders you should be working with.

What is the difference between fouettes and pique turns?

Fouette turns are done in one stationary position, and pique turns are usually done travelling. Also, in a fouette turn, the working leg does not ever touch the ground, whereas the working leg in a pique turn goes down to the floor between each turn. They are two completely different turns, but these are some basic differences. Also, fouettes are much more difficult, haha.
