Mussolini organized the Italian economy through a system known as corporatism, which aimed to mediate between employers and workers by creating state-sanctioned associations for various industries. He centralized economic control, promoting state intervention and regulation while suppressing labor unions and political dissent. Mussolini also emphasized autarky, striving for economic self-sufficiency and prioritizing military and infrastructure projects to stimulate growth. Overall, his policies sought to strengthen the state’s control over the economy while projecting an image of national strength and unity.

What did Mussolini do before he was a leader of Fascism?

He was a socialist. By the time Mussolini returned from Allied service in World War I, he had decided that socialism as a doctrine had largely been a failure. In early 1918, Mussolini called for the emergence of a man "ruthless and energetic enough to make a clean sweep" to revive the Italian nation. Much later in life Mussolini said he felt by 1919 "Socialism as a doctrine was already dead; it continued to exist only as a grudge". On March 23, 1919, Mussolini reformed the Milan fascio as the Fasci Italiani di Combattimento (Italian Combat Squad).

Who took Benito Mussolini's leadership after his death?

After the invasion of Italy by Allied forces in 1943, Italy and its government were split in two. Mussolini's Grand Fascist Council, with the co-operation of the King Victor Emanuel II, overthrew Mussolini and established a new government headed by acting Prime Minister Pietro Badoglio. The Germans set up Mussolini as a puppet ruler of the Fasists in the north, called the Government of Salo(for the town where his government ruled from), until he was executed in 1945.

Alcide De Gasperi was selected as the Prime Minister during this turbulent times(not sure exactly how or when this occurred). He served from 1945 to 1953 for eight successive Christian Democratic governments. His eight-year rule remains a landmark of political longevity for one leader in modern Italian politics.

Towards the end of the war, there was a big turmoil and discussion about retaining the monoarch. The King Victor Emanuel II was replaced by his son Umberto II who reigned for only forty days in May 1946. The country voted on a referendum that was very controversal but eventually exiled the king and eliminated the monarchy once and for all.

The Italian government after WW2 is difficult to understand. It changed leadership about once every year.

What was Benito Mussolini's weakness and strengths?

As a journalist he had learned to become a very effective communicator. He also was very good at identifying and playing on popular sentiments, like the idea that Italy had been short-changed after WW 1 by the other Allies. He also had a forceful personality and he had a natural authority.

His weakness was mostly his dramatically bad choices in military affairs and his total misjudgement of Italy's military power and prowess. All his attempts at conquest and empire-building ended in disaster and defeat, even initially his war against the primitively armed warriors of Ethiopia. He decided - simply out of greed for the victor's spoils that he feared to miss out on - to side with Germany instead of remaining neutral which finally turned Italy into a bloody battleground and which cost him his leadership and his life.

Why did they overthrew Benito Mussolini?

In 1943 Mussolini was still in control of the Repubblica di Salo' but the war was still going on and it was going to be lost. The few that strongly believed in the fascist ideology were eventually overwhelmed by the feeling of the people, sick and tired of a long war. So in the end the only reason why the people turn on Mussolini is the same reason why mice leave the ship before it sinking. Its easier to turn large amount of people on the concepts of fear of death. If you weren't fascist you would be killed, once Mussolini and Hitler lost, if you were a fascist you would have been killed. But again, Mussolini predicted it in his will talks about how the people are going to turn on him and how politics its hard because one is trying to grasp people emotion which are changeable, and so "Mutevolissimo è lo spirito degli italiani" ( changeable are the emotions of the Italian people). So honestly the only reason why the people turn on him, is because it was the best course of action for their survival at the time. Today in modern Italy one of the most sold application for iPhone is iMussolini ( all the speeches he gave). Well hope this helps.

Cheers
