I have to argue with this answer. Yes, the pill is generally more expensive than other methods but, I only pay $40 for a 3 month supply. It really all depends on your insurance and if you get it via pharmacy every month or if you get it 3 months at a time (I get mine through Medco by mail) and it is usually cheaper.

--- The pill, especially brands like Ortho TriCyclen Lo, YAZ and Yasmin. The add up more in the long term than any other method of birth control out there. The average sometimes even with insurance is $50-$60 per month.

Can the birth control pill Yaz cause odd periods?

It takes the body about three months to regulate itself to the hormones of birth control pills. So if you are within the first three months, you are most likely going to experience wonky bleeding and spotting. However, after the three months are over, your withdrawal bleeds (because you do not have periods while on hormonal birth control- you have chemically induced withdrawal bleeds) should even out to the 4 day placebo pills in Yaz.

Does ciproflaxin weaken birth control?

I am on Cipro for a kidney infection and had the same question. My research shows that it doesn't:

Question: I am currently taking Cipro 500 for a bladder/urinary tract infection. I am also taking birth control pills. Will the Cipro change the effectiveness of my birth control medication? Is there any antibiotic substance involved? Answer: Not to any appreciable amount.

Side-note: If you're taking Cipro or any other antibiotic plus birth control and you're a woman, the risk that you might develop a yeast infection is elevated, so avoid receiving oral sex (especially if your partner hasn't brushed his/her teeth and used mouthwash beforehand) as well as having your partner use a condom during sex to prevent further disruptions to your vagina's chemistry. Birth Defects cannot be changed, however, some can be corrected with medications or surgical procedures. Don't confuse a genetic disorder with a birth defect. Some birth defects can be from genetic disorders, but genetic disorders are not from birth defects. A whole in the heart is a birth defect, down syndrome is a genetic disorder.
