If you're asking about hormonal birth control (i.e. pills, etc), I would assume you'd be less protected for a period of time (usually one cycle) because there's a possibility you may have already ovulated by mid-cycle. Birth control wouldn't help much if there's already an egg floating around in there!

I just received a lamisil prescription, and asked the pharmacist if this will reduce the effectiveness of my birth control pills. He told me no, as lamisil is an anti-fungal drug. I suggest checking with your pharmacist to make sure.

There is a very small chance you may miss your first period after starting the pill, but if you don't miss any pills then you shouldn't miss your period - still it does sometimes happen. Usually though most women will experience some form a vaginal bleeding.

Birth Control pills will not cause bacterial vaginosis, but some women may note a problem with BV after starting the pill if they've recently stopped using condoms. BV is not spread by sex, but exposure to semen can make BV more likely because it changes the vaginal pH. Try using condoms for a while if you're having this problem.

It's not a period, it's a withdrawal bleed and it only happens because you stop taking your pills. You can just as easily go straight from one pack to the next without a break. This is more reliable and you never have any periods.

You don't -KNOW- per se, but since most pills that aren't progestin based regulate your period to an exact 28 day cycle, you generally ovulate between the 12th and 16th day of your cycle. There is also a stretchy white cervical mucous that generally accompanies ovulation.
