Birth Control pills will not cause bacterial vaginosis, but some women may note a problem with BV after starting the pill if they've recently stopped using condoms. It's not a period, it's a withdrawal bleed and it only happens because you stop taking your pills. You can just as easily go straight from one pack to the next without a break. This is more reliable and you never have any periods.

You don't -KNOW- per se, but since most pills that aren't progestin based regulate your period to an exact 28 day cycle, you generally ovulate between the 12th and 16th day of your cycle. There is also a stretchy white cervical mucous that generally accompanies ovulation.

It is very likely you will have some spotting and possibly an altered cycle if us stop BCP mid-cycle. I don't think calling it bad is accurate - just not something you should do if you can help it, because of the irregular cycle it will cause.

The main disadvantage to this method is the fact that many women do not always have a regular cycle. If this is a personal decision not based on medical reasons, then I believe it is 12 weeks (first trimester) although sooner is better (not something to be put off unless you were not aware of the pregnancy). If this is for medical reasons due to problems with the fetus or mother, then I believe there are options further into the pregnancy. For example, some older women chose to have an amnio test to look for problems which cannot be done until the 4th month of pregnancy. If a potential chromosone problem is found, the mother can chose to terminate the pregnancy at that point (which is later than if it is a personal choice). I believe there are always options based the situation, speak with your doctor.
