If you're on the birth control pill, absolutely you should continue it even if you don't anticipate having sex for several months. It keeps you in the habit so you won't forget when the time comes again that you need them. It also keeps your body in a stable hormonal pattern, which may be useful for many reasons besides birth control.

Besides, once you decide you're ready for sex again you don't want to have to wait an entire period cycle to reboot your pill's effectiveness. You want to be covered from the moment that you first want to have sex. So it pays to be prepared and already on the pill.

Finally, if (God forbid) you should be unlucky enough to be raped (God forbid), it would be one less problem to worry about if you knew at least it wouldn't mean you'd get pregnant.
